Cost per recipe $6.47 view details
  • 1 (16 ONCE) PKG PHILO DOUGH
  • ½ LB SHREDDED MUENSTER CHEESE
  • 1 (6 OZ) PKG CREAM CHEESE
  • 1 EGG BEATEN
  • 1 TBSP GRATED RAW ONION
  • ¾ C. MELTED MARGERINE
  • ½ C. FINELY CHOPPED SPINACH (I USED FROZEN CHOPPED- SQUEEZE OUT LIQUID)

Directions

  1. BEAT TOGETHER 3 CHEESES, EGG AND ONION UNTIL SMOOTH. ADD COOKED SPINACH.
  2. TAKE 2 SHHETS OF PHILO DOUGH OUT OF PACKAGE, KEEPING REMAINING SHEETS COVERED WITH A DAMP TOWEL TO PREVENT DRYING OUT. PLACE THE 2 SHEETS ONE ON TOP THE OTHER, CUT SHEETS INTO 3 OR 4 STRIPS LENGTHWISE. EACH STRIP WILL BE ABOUT 3 INCHES WIDE AND 12 INCHES LONG. PLACE A TEASPOON FUL OF CHEESE MIXTURE IN ONE CORNER OF A STRIP. FOLD DOUGH OVER MIXTURE TO RIGHT EDGE, FOLD UP, THEN OVER TO LEFT EDGE, ALL THE WAY UP THE STRIP, MAKING A TRIANGLE.
  3. PLACE ON UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET. BRUSH ENTIRE TRIANGLE, FRONT AND BACK WITH MELTED BUTTER. BAKE 400 FOR 20 MIN.

Made this for our superbowl party; 4 people ate the entire batch - it was great. Highly recommend for party appetizers.

hi, Terri. the recipe is not correct as it concerns the name. TYROPITA means cheese pie (as you describes the method) whereas SPANAKOTYROPITA (meaning spinach & cheese pie) concerns the ingredients you wrote.(in the methjod you don't mention spinach). in aqny case, the pie is delicious. for the treatment of spinach I would suggest to work it with salt in order to be softer and more yummy. best regards and wishes for great cooking! This recipe looks almost like "Samosa" from Indian cuisine. I look forward to trying your recipe.
