Been living in Riyadh as the spouse of a Vinnell Arabia contractor for three years this June! learning some new flavors and recipes here. Can't wait to share them.
About me
Strangely preoccupied with food. Too old to go the "chef" route. Torture my friends and family with food constantly.
Cooking Influences
Have lived in Sweden, Germany, Kentucky, WestByGodVirginia, Tennesse, Texas, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, California, Oklahoma....and traveled quite a bit. Can you tell we are a military family? I try to pick up regional flavors and specialty dishes where ever we've lived and add my own touches to them. When asked the "what do you like to eat" question, I usually reply with "pretty much anything that doesn't crawl away from me". I DO like to know WHAT I'm eating though and try to stay away from prepackaged foods and chemical laden stuff. Cheetos don't count...sometimes, you just GOTTA have some.

- January 26, 2012Hi Cindy, and thanks for the follow back! I don't know how old is too old to go the chef route, but Julia Child was 36 or 37 when she began her studies, and I was well into my 40's when I went into culinary arts school.
I've since done my share of the 18 hour days on my feet (as Chef Amos mentioned), but I am so immersed in doing what I love, that I often don't even realize it!
I find, though, that I'm now getting "a little long in the tooth", so to speak, to be working like that, so have actually been considering the personal chef idea, (as Chef Amos also mentioned). I couldn't give up professional cooking entirely.
Your recipes look good, and I'm looking forward to enjoying them.
Thanks for sharing! - January 24, 2012Hi, Cindy - Great to connect with you here. You are never too old to begin a reinvention of yourself. You only need to search the options. It seems to me you may find your niche in the area of personal chef. Granted, the restaurant chef gig is an 18 hour day on your feet and virtually any / every day of the week, and that certainly would be a younger person's venue. But there are many areas in the food service and hospitality fields that might provide a period of honing your skills so you can then make your own market in your geographic area. That said, I LOVE Cheetos - best wishes, Amospreferable regular crunchy!
- January 24, 2012No rest for the wicked they say! We'll be moving back to southern Alabama in a few weeks so the man can go back to teaching at the Army's AH-64 Apache course. Just when I'd finally acclimated to the dryness of the high desert!
