Directions

  1. Brown turkey in small amount of shortening. Salt to taste. (Ham may be substituted. If so, skip these two steps.) Spray a 9 x 13 inch casserole with Pam. Butter both sides of the bread. Line pan with half of bread (6 to 8 slices). Combine diced celery and onions with meat. Sprinkle proportionately over bread. Cover with remaining bread.
  2. Mix 1 1/2 c. lowfat milk, mayonnaise and Large eggs with beater. Pour over casserole. Cover and chill overnight.
  3. Make a white sauce by melting 1/4 c. butter in saucepan over low heat. Blend in 1/4 c. flour, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. Accent and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Heat and stir till it bubbles. Gradually add in 2 c. lowfat milk. Stir and cook rapidly till thickened. Cold and chill for next day. (Save 1/2 c. lowfat milk to thin sauce the next day.)
  4. Before baking, spread grated cheese and thinned white sauce over all.
  5. Cover with foil and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 min, then uncover and continue baking for 30 min. Let stand 5 min before cutting.
