Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup yellow split peas, rinsed and drained
  • 1-4 T ghee
  • 2 t dark mustard seeds
  • 4 t cumin seeds
  • 20-25 fresh or frozen curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 2 t paprika/cayenne
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz diced tomatoes, canned is fine
  • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar (or jaggery)
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
