German Chocolate Caramel Bars Recipe

Ingredients

  • 20 ounce Light caramels
  • 1/2 c. Evaporated lowfat milk
  • 1 box (18.5-ounce) German chocolate cake mix
  • 1/4 c. Butter, melted
  • 1/3 c. Evaporated lowfat milk
  • 1 c. Minced walnuts
  • 1 c. Semi-sweet or possibly lowfat milk chocolate pcs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 . Combine caramels and 1/2 c. lowfat milk and heat in a double boiler. Set aside. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan. In a large bowl combine cake mix, melted butter, 1/3 c. lowfat milk and nuts. Press half of this mix into bottom of pan. Bake for 8 min. Remove from oven.
  2. Immediately sprinkle chocolate pcs on top. Next, spread caramel mix over chocolate pcs. Crumble remaining cake mix over caramel layer.
  3. Return to oven and bake for 20 min. Cold slightly and chill for 1 hour. Cut into bars. These may be frzn.
  4. Yield: 20 bars.
