- The Cafe at Bonny Doon Vineyard's tasting room is exceptional. Choose between many small plate offerings (like smoked fingerling potatoes with aioli) or a Prix Fixe dinner that changes daily. Everything uses local and seasonal ingredients.

- The best local brews in Santa Cruz. The dread brown is one of my favorites.
- Engfer Pizza Works (Santa Cruz, CA)
- Delicious wood-fired pizza. My favorite is the "Pesto-Extra-Liscious" -- pesto as sauce, pineapple, red onion, feta and garlic. I add cashews too for a little crunch and protein.
- La Posta (Santa Cruz, CA)
- A cozy neighborhood restaurant serving authentic Italian fare.
- Soif Wine Bar (Santa Cruz, CA)
- Tapas and wine in the heart of downtown. I've eaten here for my birthday 2 years in a row.
- Oswald (Santa Cruz, CA)
- A nice upscale place to eat downtown. Has a "big city" feel and great cocktails too. Go at lunch time and order off the bar menu for the best deal. You won't be dissappointed with the burger with roquefort and caramelized onions.
- Harbor Cafe (Santa Cruz, CA)
- Quite easily one of the best breakfast places in Santa Cruz, with a nice outdoor heated patio (dog friendly). Mimosas and avocado benedict? Yes please!
