Trifle is a kind of dessert which has layers of sponge cake, custard, jelly, fruits and whipped cream. My kids love this sweet dish. I used to serve this layered dessert on special occasions.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla essence
- 1/2 cup custard powder
- 1 cup normal water
- sponge cake or Swiss rolls, sliced
- 1 cup fruit cocktail
- 1/2 cup Nestle' cream
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp. sugar
Directions
- Boil milk and add sugar.
- Stir in vanilla essence.
- Mix custard powder and water in a bowl and pour into simmering milk. Stir until thickened. Cool.
- Spread sponge cake in a dish.
- Pour custard over cake.
- Beat cream. Add egg yolk and sugar, continue whipping until smooth.
- Spread whipped cream over the custard.
- Topped with fruit cocktail.
- NOTE: If custard powder is not available, cornflour may be used. Just add a pinch of yellow food color. Chopped jellies may be added in this recipe as topping.
