Ingredients

Directions

  1. Line the small roasting tin with bake o glide or possibly baking parchment.
  2. In a mixing bowl put the margarine sugar and treacle or possibly syrup.
  3. Stand bowl on the aga till the fat is melted and the sugar mixes in well.
  4. Sieve the flour bicarbonate of soda and ginger together into a mixing bowl.
  5. Stir in the oatmeal.
  6. Beat together the egg and lowfat milk.
  7. When the syrup mix is melted together pour into the flour.
  8. Beat in the egg and lowfat milk to make a smooth batter.
  9. Pour into the prepared tin.
  10. For the two oven aga hang the roasting tin on the bottom set of runners of the roasting oven.
  11. Slide in the cool shelf two runners above. For the four oven aga bake in the baking oven on the bottom set of runners.
  12. Bake for 25 to 30 min till risen slightly shrunk from the sides of the tin and is hard to the touch in the middle.
  13. Cold in the tin before cutting into squares.
  14. A variation on the gingerbread theme this is ideal for Bonfire Night hot and spicy. Like gingerbread this improves with keeping in a tin for about a week.
