Ingredients
- 2 pound round steak, cut 3/4" thick
- 2 tbsp. shortening or possibly bacon drippings
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 c. water
- 4 c. grated cabbage
- 1-1 1/2 c. grated carrots
- 1 c. uncooked rice
- 1 med. onion, minced
- 1 can cream of celery soup
- 1 c. water, or possibly a little more
- 2 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 c. shredded cheese
Directions
- Cut steak in thin slices 2-3 inches long and brown in shortening. Season meat with salt and pepper; add in 1/2 c. water. Cover and cook slowly for 30 min. Stir in cabbage, carrots, rice and onion.
- Combine celery soup with 1 c. water and soy sauce. Stir into meat-vegetable mix and place in a 3 qt casserole. Cover tightly and bake at 350 degrees for 45 min. Remove cover, top with cheese and continue baking 15 more min. Makes 10 servings.
