Directions

  1. Combine dates, 1/2 c. sugar, and water in saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, till mix is the consistency of very thick jam. Cold. Cream butter; add in sugars gradually, beating till light and fluffy. Beat in Large eggs and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients. Add in to creamed mix, blending thoroughly. Stir in nut and date mix. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet. Bake in a moderate oven (375 degrees) 12 to 15 min. Makes 12 dozen. Cold on rack; package in freezer containers with tight fitting lids. Seal, label, date, and freeze. Recommended storage time, 9 to 12 months. To serve, let thaw in container a few min.
