Is that a picture of the sour little fruit? What is its name? I remember this dish my grandma used to make with pork cracklings and fermented bean paste and dark soy sauce!

  Thank you for stopping by. The sour little fruit is called belimbing, also known as "averrhoe bilimbi". Yes, I think that this should be the fruit that your grandma used to cook with. It is great in spicy dishes too. You must have missed this! I planted this at my very tiny backyard and it has been giving me loads of fruits. It is however extremely sour to eat on its own, best used in cooking, especially in sambal, yummy! You can find out more about this fruit from the web. Hope this helps! Have a lovely day!

  Thank you for dropping by. Fermented black beans are used frequently in Chinese cooking, they can be found in most Asian stores, as with most fermented sauces or beans, they can be rather salty. So do a taste test first before using and adjust the amount accordingly as you like.
