Directions

  1. Stir together the flour, celery salt and pepper. Dredge the meat portions, and press the coating into the meat with your hands. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium/high heat and brown the steaks. Remove the meat to a roasting pan with a lid. In the same skillet, saute/fry the onion rings and mushrooms till they are soft. Lay this over top of the steaks. Combine the tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce and garlic pwdr and then pour the sauce over all in the roasting pan. Cover the pan and bake at 350 for 1 hour 15 min, or possibly till the meat is tender. Transfer the meat and vegetables to a serving platter and keep hot. Combine the cornstach and water and stir into the sauce. Bring to a boil while stirring till the sauce thickens slightly.ESpoon the sauce over the meat and vegetables and serve.
  2. NOTES : This is a dish my Mother made, it is sort of a cross beween Salisbury Steak and a dish she called Swiss Steak. I often use round steak when I make it, but go ahead and use grnd beef patties if which is what you like, the method is the same but the baking time will be less. I often add in sliced sweet red or possibly green pepper to this dish.
