Aunt Pearl's Homemade Raisin Bread Recipe (Grandma Nellie) Recipe

Ingredients

  • FIRST
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 Yeast (1 dry & 1 wet)
  • 2 tbs. Sugar
  • 2 cups Flour
  • SECOND
  • 2 cups whole milk (boiled and cooled)
  • 1/4 cup. Oil
  • 1/2 Lb. Butter
  • 2 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 tbs. Salt
  • THIRD
  • 6 Beaten eggs
  • 4-10 cups Flour (so dough is not sticky)
  • 1 box Raisins, washed and soak in water for 1-2 hours

Directions

  1. FIRST Ingredients - Mix together and cover, and let rise until double - 2-3 hours or overnight (looks like pancake batter).
  2. Add SECOND to FIRST.
  3. Add THIRD and put in well greased pans and cover and let rise again. Brush a whole egg on top of bread before placing in the oven.
  4. Bake 275 degree oven for 15 minutes, 325 degree oven for 30 minutes, and 300 degree oven for 30 more minutes. Total baking time is 1 - 1 1/4 hours.
