About me
I'm a bachelor, so it's cook at home or eat out. There is no dinner waiting for me when I get home. My goal is for home cooked food to taste better than eating out. I have raised one son and three daughters. I'm proud to say they are all successful and happily married. I have six grandchildren.
I've just recently become interested in cooking. While being laid up for 2 months after a surgery, I got hooked on cooking shows. I'm learning about herbs, spices and blending of flavors by cooking your recipes.
I love wine on it's own, ( and food on it's own) and I'm slowly learning to blend the flavors of food and wine. If nothing else, I've learned to cook with wine. My friends and I usually drink the bottle that's open with dinner, giving little thought to food/ wine pairing. Sometimes it's a wonderful marriage of flavors. Sometimes, not so much.
I'm not a very creative cook, but I like to tweak recipes to my own taste preferences. One lession I've learned is to document any changes to a recipe, so that, if it's successful, I can repeat it later. I'm truly humbled by being able to try your recipes.
Cooking Influences
How sad that I have to admit to being influenced by cooking shows. My mom was a great person, but a boring cook who never used any seasonings beyond salt and pepper. The only thing I knew about garlic was it made other people's breath smell. I am now being influenced by the mind-boggling array of recipes on this site

- March 4, 2011Hi, Rick - I just responded to a post you made back in '08 about eggplant tasting like abalone. Take a look at my page and maybe you'll find something you want to try and then you can review it so I can learn something, too! best regards, Amos
