Easter Bread (Lambropsomo) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 pkt active dry yeast
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 stk butter melted and cooled
  • 1 c. lowfat milk hot
  • 3 x Large eggs beaten
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 4 lb all-purpose flour approximately
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 dsh salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly grnd nutmeg
  • 5 x hard boiled Large eggs dyed red
  • 1 x egg beaten Sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Add in ingredients to bread machine according to manufacturer's instructions. Use the Manual cycle.
  2. At the end of the second kneading, divide dough in half and shape into round loaf in a greased pan. Place one dyed egg in the center and the other four at the edges, making a cross. Brush with 1 beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  3. With remaining dough, make individual twists or possibly a second loaf. Let rise one hour.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 min.
  5. Makes 1 large loaf or possibly 4 small twists.
