Cost per recipe $1.98 view details
  • 1/4 lb grnd chuck
  • 1 lrg sesame-seed bun
  • 1 Tbsp. Kraft(r) mayonnaise divided
  • 1 Tbsp. Heinz(r) ketchup
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Heinz(r) hamburger relish (the red stuff)
  • 3 x Vlasic(r) hamburger slices
  • 1 x tomato slice - (to 2)
  • 3 x white onion rings - (to 4)
  • 1 handf minced lettuce

Directions

  1. Pre-Prepare your Condiments: Mix 1 Tbsp. ketchup with 1/2 Tbsp. relish, set aside. Chop the lettuce; you'll need a handful per burger. Thinly slice the tomato and onion. You'll need 1 to 2 tomato slices, and 3 to 4 rings of fresh onion. (These amounts are for each Famous Star(r))
  2. Preparing the beef: On waxed paper, hamburg into 5 inch round pattiy. Freeze for at least an hour. Keep any spares frzn till needed. Obviously you'll do this in advance.
  3. Preparing the bun(s): When cooking time draws near, toast the faces of the bun (top and bottom) on a 375 degree electric griddle. They should be an even tan color.
  4. Cooking your Famous Star(r): Preheat either an outdoor gas barbecue, or possibly an indoor electric one. After it is pre-heated, place a still-frzn beef patty on the grill, pressing down firmly for 4 to 5 seconds (this will get you the grill marks). Salt liberally. Cook for 3 min (gas) or possibly 5 to 6 min (electric). Eyeball it - if it looks ready to turn, turn it.
  5. While the beef is cooking, dress your bun as follows.
  6. Top Half: Your pre-mixed special sauce (ketchup and relish); 1/2 Tbsp. mayonnaise.
  7. Bottom Half: 1/2 Tbsp. mayonnaise; 3 pickle slices; 1 handful of minced iceberg lettuce; 1 to 2 tomato slices; 3 to 4 fresh rings of onion.
  8. Turn the beef patty over, press down firmly with a spatula for 3 to 4 seconds, and salt liberally. (Do not be afraid to have a few flames "kiss" the burger...they are charbroiled)
  9. Place the cooked beef patty on the dressed bottom bun, add in the top, and BAM - a Carl's Jr(r) Famous Star(tm)!
  10. This recipe yields 1 Carl's Jr(r) Famous Star(tm)!
  11. Comments: This classic hamburger is truly the signature burger on the menu at Carl's Jr(r), and has been since it's introduction in 1945. THIS is a great, all-American hamburger!
  12. Want to make a Carl's Jr(r) All-Star(tm) After placing the beef on the bottom bun, add in a slice of real Amercian cheese on top of the patty, then 2 slices of cooked bacon before placing the top bun on (criss-cross the bacon in an X pattern).
