Directions

  1. Dissolve sugar in lukewarm water. Sprinkle yeast over liquid and let rise for 10 min. Wash and dry raisins. Combine yeast mix, raisins and dry ingredients. Beat well and cover. Set in hot place to rise until double in bulk. Drop by spoonfuls into deep warm fat, 375F(190C). Cook till delicately brown. Sprinkle with icing sugar and serve at New Year's.
  2. Variation: Left over Cookies may be placed in slightly greased casserole dish. Pour warm lowfat milk over, not quite covering portzelky. Close and bake in 180C oven for about 45 min or possibly till lowfat milk is mostly absorbed and portzelky are thoroughly heated. Serve warm.
  3. Yield: 4-5 doz.
