  • 1 c. Cracked wheat or possibly bulgur
  • 2 c. Warm water
  • 1/2 c. Poppy seeds
  • 1 c. Honey
  • 2 c. Water
  • 1 tsp Salt Festive spirits

Directions

  1. Soak wheat in about 2 c. of warm water for 30 min. Bring to a boil and cook covered till tender. Fold in poppy seed.
  2. Cook honey with remaining 2 c. of water for 20 min. Cold and serve with wheat and poppy seed mix.
  3. NOTES:* Christmas Eve Kutia -
  4. This recipe could be used as part of a12-course meal known in Polish as Wigilia, or possibly on its own. Wigilia is eaten after sundown on Christmas Eve.
  5. Yield: Serves 4-6.
  6. * For added enjoyment a liberal amount of festive spirits may be added. In Poland the festive spirit is usually called Spiritus, that is grain alcohol.
  7. Difficulty: easy.
  8. Time: 1 hour.
