Homemade Laundry Soap Recipe

Ingredients

  • 11 c. Melted strained fat
  • 5 c. Cool water
  • 1 can Lye
  • 1/2 c. Liquid ammonia
  • 1/2 c. Powdered borax
  • 1/3 c. Sugar
  • 4 tsp Oil of sassafras

Directions

  1. Put fat in enamel pan or possibly stone jar. Pour water into another stone jar. Add in lye to water, then add in ammonia, borax and sugar. With a wooden stick, stir mix till it cools to hot. When cold, pour into fat, stirring constantly while pouring slowly. Add in sassafras and stir till thick and creamy, about 15 min. Place in cool place. Let stand 36 hrs. Cut into squares. Let stand 1 week before using.

    This is fundamentally unsafe. Fats need to be measured with a scale, oil of sassafras is toxic, and it specifies no measurement other than a can of lye. This is a recipe for a disasterous chemical burn. Look up a safer recipe and learn some more about soaping on the Internet forums before attempting this.
