  1. 1. In large saucepan, saute/fry vegetables in butter for 10 min.
  2. 2. Stir in flour. Add in the broth and heat, stirring constantly, till mix comes to a boil.
  3. 3. Add in barley. Cover and simmer soup till barley is cooked through,, about 1 hour.
  4. 4. Stir in the lowfat milk, meat, salt, and pepper. Heat thoroughly and serve. Serves 8.
