  1. Boil sugar, water, lard, raisins, salt and spices 5 min. Let cold, then add in baking soda and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly (batter should be quite stiff). Add in minced nuts. Pour into greased and floured rectangular or possibly square pans and decorate with nuts. Bake in preheated 350 F oven 30 to 35 min or possibly till a knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  2. I usually omit the half or possibly whole nuts and just lightly dust the top with powdered sugar.
