Almost embarrassingly simple to make. If you have too many Greek pita flat breads and no way to use them up, waffle them and serve in place of donuts for your hungry crowd. These are chewy and firm breads, which keep well for several days. Recipe below uses one pita flat bread, waffle-grilled and cut into 4 servings or pieces. A fun snack and nice at break time with a glass of milk, or a cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients

Cost per serving $0.00 view details
  • 1 Greek pita flat bread (I had white leftover on hand, but whole wheat would be better yet)
  • 1/2 tablesoon butter softened or melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar (or more to taste)

Directions

  1. Heat waffle iron to waffle baking temperature. (I did not need any vegetable spray on grill - mine is well-seasoned.)
  2. Place pita flat bread in center of hot waffle grill. Close and grill pita until it is firm and golden brown, but not crispy or dark (perhaps 2 minutes or less, but waffle irons vary so you'll need to experiment.)
  3. Remove to wire rack and immediately brush with butter. Break or cut into 4 sections then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  4. Cool thoroughly then store.
