- Double Chocolate Salted Caramel Donuts | Printable Recipe
- makes 9-11 donuts (with leftover ganache and salted caramel sauce)
- ingredients:
- for the salted caramel sauce:
- 2 cups white sugar
- 12 Tbsp butter, softened, and cut into small chunks
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 Tbsp sea salt
- for the ganache
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 6 oz dark chocolate chips (I suggest weighing it out)
- for the donuts:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup milk (I used 1%)
- 6 Tbsp full fat sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Sea Salt (to garnish donuts)

%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20she%20did%20request%20Chocolate%20Salted%20Caramel%20Donuts%20for%20her%20birthday,%20so%20here%20they%20are!%20I%20just%20wish%20I%20was%20with%20her%20to%20make%20them%20for%20her!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShe%20didn't%20invite%20me%20out%20camping%20either.%20Otherwise%20I%20would%20have%20shared%20them%20with%20her.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20eating%20my%20sorrows%20away.%20One%20donut%20at%20a%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20just%20so%20we're%20clear,%20I%20wont%20be%20taking%20anymore%20photos%20of%20myself%20once%20this%20series%20is%20over.%20I'll%20be%20weighing%20300%20extra%20pounds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELuckily,%20donuts%20are%20worth%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20here%20we%20have%20chocolate%20cake%20donuts%20with%20a%20sweet%20chocolate%20ganache%20topped%20with%20salted%20caramel%20sauce%20drizzled%20and%20sprinkled%20with%20sea%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20mean,%20have%20you%20ever%20heard%20such%20a%20rich%20tasting%20sentence?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20donuts%20aren't%20for%20the%20faint%20of%20heart!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20if%20you're%20confident%20your%20heart%20wont%20be%20fainting%20today,%20then%20by%20golly%20get%20to%20making%20these%20right%20now!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20be%20uber%20careful%20making%20the%20caramel,%20capeesh?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20don't%20be%20like%20me%20and%20be%20impatient%20with%20the%20caramel%20setting.%20Let%20it%20cool%20completely%20before%20you%20drizzle%20it%20on%20top.%20Otherwise%20the%20caramel%20will%20just%20seep%20into%20the%20donut.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon't%20get%20me%20wrong.%20It'll%20still%20taste%20deeeeeeeelish;%20it%20just%20might%20not%20look%20as%20perty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20once%20again,%20be%20better%20than%20me,%20don't%20burn%20your%20cute%20fingers%20on%20the%20caramel%20sauce,%20and%20eat%20the%20whole%20batch%20of%20these%20donuts%20so%20I%20can%20feel%20better%20about%20myself!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20Independence%20Weekend%20to%20my%20USA%20friends!%20See%20you%20all%20back%20here%20Tuesday!%20:D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Edirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStart%20with%20the%20salted%20caramel%20sauce.%20Put%20a%203%20quart%20saucepan%20over%20medium%20high%20heat%20and%20immediately%20add%20the%202%20cups%20sugar.%20Allow%20sugar%20to%20begin%20melting%20and%20start%20whisking.%20Whisk%20continuously%20until%20sugar%20is%20fully%20melted.%20Sugar%20will%20clump%20up%20but%20continue%20to%20whisk.%20Once%20sugar%20is%20fully%20melted,%20stop%20whisking.%20Sugar%20should%20be%20starting%20to%20brown%20already.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKeep%20a%20very%20close%20eye%20on%20the%20mixture%20(DO%20NOT%20LET%20BURN),%20and%20once%20it%20turns%20a%20dark%20amber%20in%20color,%20very%20carefully%20add%20in%20butter.%20DON'T%20let%20any%20hot%20sugar%20splash%20up%20and%20burn%20you!%20Whisk%20butter%20until%20it%20is%20completely%20melted%20and%20then%20remove%20sugar-butter%20mixture%20from%20heat.%20Slowly%20whisk%20in%20the%201%20cup%20heavy%20whipping%20cream,%20until%20fully%20combined.%20Allow%20to%20cool%20completely.%20You%20may%20transfer%20to%20the%20fridge%20to%20cool%20faster,%20and%20any%20remaining%20can%20be%20stored%20in%20fridge,%20in%20an%20airtight%20container,%20for%20up%20to%20a%20month.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20the%20caramel%20sauce%20is%20cooling,%20make%20the%20donuts.%20Start%20by%20preheating%20oven%20to%20375%C2%B0F/190%C2%B0C.%20In%20a%20large%20bowl,%20sift%20together%20flour,%20sugar,%20baking%20soda%20and%20cocoa%20powder.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20sized%20measuring%20cup,%20combine%20oil,%20milk,%20sour%20cream,%20egg%20and%20vanilla.%20Whisk%20together,%20and%20then%20add%20wet%20ingredients%20to%20dry%20ingredients.%20Stir%20until%20just%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpray%20a%20donut%20pan%20with%20non-stick%20spray%20and%20spoon%20donut%20mixture%20into%20pan,%20filling%202/3%20full.%20Bake%20in%20preheated%20oven%209-11%20minutes,%20until%20donuts%20spring%20back%20when%20touched.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20oven,%20allow%20to%20cool%20slightly%20in%20pan,%20then%20turn%20out%20to%20cooling%20rack%20to%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20donuts%20are%20cooling,%20make%20the%20ganache.%20Start%20with%20a%20small%20saucepan%20and%20add%20the%20remaining%201%20cup%20heavy%20whipping%20cream%20and%202/3%20cup%20sugar.%20Stir%20just%20to%20combine,%20and%20put%20over%20medium-high%20heat.%20Bring%20mixture%20to%20a%20simmer,%20and%20stir%20to%20allow%20sugar%20to%20melt%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20chocolate%20in%20a%20large%20heat%20proof%20bowl,%20and%20pour%20cream%20mixture%20over%20chocolate.%20Let%20sit%20for%20just%20a%20minute,%20then%20stir%20to%20melt%20chocolate%20completely.%20Allow%20to%20cool%20completely,%20stirring%20occasionally.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20all%20three%20things%20are%20completely%20cooled%20and%20caramel%20sauce%20is%20slightly%20hardened,%20dip%20donuts%20into%20the%20ganache,%20place%20top%20up%20on%20a%20cooling%20rack,%20allow%20to%20harden%20slightly,%20and%20drizzle%20over%20salted%20caramel%20sauce%20and%20garnish%20with%20s
