Directions

  1. 1. Cut small, soft gumdrops into 4 to 5 pcs each. (Don't use licorice-flavored candies.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan.
  2. 2. Sift flour with baking pwdr, salt and spices. Set aside.
  3. 3. Place shortening, brown sugar, egg and vanilla into large bowl.
  4. Use an electric mixer set at medium speed to beat mix till light and fluffy. Add in half the flour mix and the evaporated lowfat milk and beat till smooth. Stir in remaining flour mix till well combined. Add in gumdrops and coarsely minced walnuts (or possibly pecans), mixing well.
  5. 4. Spread proportionately in prepared pan. Bake 25-30 min or possibly till cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Remove pan to wire rack and cold partially. Cut into bars while still hot. Sprinkle lightly with sifted confectioner's sugar.
  6. Yield: about 20 bars.
