  • 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. unsalted butter
  • 1/4 c. rolled oats
  • 3/4 c. light brown sugar - (packed)
  • 1/2 c. minced pecans or possibly walnuts
  • 3/4 tsp grnd cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp freshly-grated nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 lb blackberries and loganberries
  •     (any other berries will do)
  • 1/2 lb thinly-sliced peeled nectarines
  • 1/4 tsp grnd ginger or possibly to taste
  • 1/3 c. sugar or possibly to taste
  • 2 tsp cornstarch

Directions

  1. Prepare the topping: In a food processor, pulse the flour and butter till the texture of coarse cornmeal. Remove to a bowl and toss with remaining ingredients till mixed. (This can be refrigerated for 1 week or possibly frzn for 6 months.)
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 10- by 8-inch casserole dish.
  3. Prepare fruit filling: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  4. To assemble: Place the fruit filling in the buttered dish. Cover the filling with a 3/4-inch layer (or possibly more) of the topping.
  5. Bake till bubbling and the fruit in the middle is tender, 25 to 30 min. Serve hot for best flavor. Serve with ice cream, if you like.
  6. This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
