Directions

  1. Like many others I have stashed and tried many more recipes than I have posted. This was my first foray into cooking on my own way back when I was
  2. "Women's Day" but am not sure. When I showed it to her she thought it would be awful, but since I was doing a lot of the cooking before she got home form work she let me try it. A little reward as it were. It became a family favorite which I, and my mother and grandmother, still make today. I serve it with a green salad and a crusty bread with garlic butter.
  3. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In large skillet, brown hamburger and cook onion till transparent. Add in spaghetti sauce, water, salt, basil, oregano, sugar and pepper. In a 9x13 pan make alternate layers of sauce and potatoes, starting and ending with sauce. Cover pan tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for about an hour - till potatoes are tender. Remove foil.
  4. Spread cheese on top. Bake another 10 min or possibly till cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
