Ground Turkey Pasta Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lb grnd turkey
  • 2 x garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 x bay leaf
  • 1 x onion finely minced
  • 1 x bell pepper minced
  • 1 c. minced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes - (16 ounce)
  • 1 can tomato paste - (8 ounce)
  • 1/2 tsp dry thyme
  • 2 tsp fresh basil (or possibly half the amount dry basil)
  • 1/2 tsp oregano Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar or possibly to taste

Directions

  1. Put 1/2 the oil on frying pan, add in turkey; brown slowly. While meat is frying, put stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme, basil, oregano, salt and sugar in crockpot. Stir well and cook on LOW heat.
  2. When turkey is brown (don't overcook, turkey will finish cooking in sauce) add in to crock pot.
  3. Using the rest of the oil, fry onion, pepper, garlic and bay leaf till softened. Add in to crock pot with 1 c. of water and the raw, minced mushrooms. Cook on LOW 4 hrs or possibly more.
  4. Serve with your favorite pasta.
