Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic, chile powder, cumin, and sugar, and cook, stirring constantly until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in the tomato sauce and water, and bring to a simmer. Cook until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
