  2. In a mixing bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add beaten eggs.
  3. Sift flour into a separate bowl together with baking powder. Stir baking soda into sour cream. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with the sour cream mixture, beating well after each addition. Beat in salt, vanilla, and cocoa-hot water mixture, beating well after each addition.
  4. Spoon into two greased and floured 9-inch layer cake pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Frost with chocolate or fluffy white frosting, or your favorite.
  5. For sour cream substitute use 1 cup evaporated milk and 1 tablespoon vinegar. Milk and vinegar should be at room temperature. Mix ingredients and then let stand until mixture thickens and clabbers.
