Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. c&h brown sugar packed
  • 1 c. dairy lowfat sour cream
  • 1/2 c. crisco shortening
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 3 whl Large eggs
  • 2 1/4 c. softasilk cake flour
  • 3 pkt premelted chocolate (or possibly chocolate sq. melted)
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 4 pkt premelted chocolate (or possibly chocolat sq., melted)
  • 4 c. c&h powdered sugar
  • 1/2 c. lowfat milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 .
  2. Beat C&H brown sugar, lowfat sour cream shortening, vanilla, premelted chocolate, and Large eggs in a large mixer bowl on low speed till blended. Beat on high speed for 5 min. Beat in flour, baking soda and salt on low speed; beat in boiling water slowly. Pour into 3 greased and floured (or possibly wax paper lined) round pans, 8" x 1 1/2". Bake at 350 till wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, approximately 30 to 35 min. Cold for 10 min on rack. Remove from pans. Cold cakes completely. Fill and frost layers.
  3. Chocolate Frosting: Heat butter and chocolate in saucepan, over low heat, till melted. Remove from heat. Stir in sugar, lowfat milk and vanilla. Beat till smooth. Place pan of frosting in bowl of ice water. Beat till mix mounds slightly. Don't overbeat. Remove pan from ice water. Beat till of spreading consistency.
