Ingredients
- 4 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 T. cornstarch
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1 can (13 oz.) evaporated milk
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 pkg. (10 oz.) mini marshmallows
- 1 jar (7 oz.)of marshmallow cream
- 1 pkg. (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 milk chocolate candy bar (7 oz.), broken up
- 2 t. vanilla
- 2 c. chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPerhaps%20it%20will%20be%20a%20political%20commentator/yeller%E2%80%99s%20latest%20book-rant%20against%20everything.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20listen%20to%20NPR,%20not%20%E2%80%9Ctalk%20radio.%E2%80%9D)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPerhaps%20it%20will%20be%20last%20year%E2%80%99s%20gift%20that%20you%20gave%20to%20said%20relative%20just%20to%20reciprocate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Yes,%20I%20received%20regifted%20gifts%20back%20from%20said%20relative.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd,%20that,%20dear%20reader,%20brings%20me%20to%20my%20point%E2%80%A6let%E2%80%99s%20ban%20self-imposed%20gift%20giving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%E2%80%99s%20not%20give%20gifts%20just%20to%20give.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%E2%80%99s%20work%20on%20enjoying%20each%20other%E2%80%99s%20company.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%E2%80%99s%20make%20homemade%20gifts%20from%20the%20kitchen%20or%20other%20homemade%20gifts%20that%20are%20useful.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20not%20nine%20and%20I%20need%20no%20more%20bunny%20suits.%20(Thank%20you,%20Aunt%20Clara.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20year%E2%80%99s%20rant%20was%20sponsored%20by%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20holidays%20are%20over%20and%20it%20is%20time%20to%20think%20about%20putting%20up%20the%20Christmas%20decorations,%20composting%20the%20tree,%20and%20putting%20the%20Santa%20dishes%20away%20until%20next%20year.%20%20%20Although%20you%20now%20%20have%20had%20time%20to%20catch%20your%20breath%20between%20parties%20and%20relatives,%20after%20Christmas%20is%20the%20perfect%20time%20to%20re-watch%20A%20Christmas%20Story,%20this%20month%E2%80%99s%20featured%20film%20for%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix%20(selected%20and%20hosted%20by%20Heather%20at%20girlichef.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20a%20classic!%20%20%20The%20Hubs%20can%20quote%20almost%20the%20entire%20film%20from%20memory.%20%20I%20have%20such%20fond%20memories%20watching%20this%20film%20at%20my%20mom%E2%80%99s%20house%20about%20ten%20years%20ago.%20%20Of%20course%20we%20had%20seen%20the%20film%20umpteen%20times%20before%20then%20(and%20since),%20but%20I%20think%20the%20memory%20of%20this%20viewing%20is%20etched%20in%20my%20brain.%20The%20eldest%20nephew%20was%20only%20four%20and%20was%20the%20only%20%E2%80%9Cbaby%E2%80%9D%20in%20the%20family%20at%20that%20time.%20%20%20Mom%20was%20still%20living%20in%20Oklahoma%20and%20her%20house%20was%20always%20so%20warm%20and%20inviting%20and%20cozy,%20especially%20at%20Christmas.%20%20%20The%20Sis%20and%20her%20family%20were%20there%20as%20well%20as%20The%20Hubs%20and%20I.%20%20We%20had%20just%20snuggled%20in%20with%20hot%20drinks%20(probably%20cocoa)%20into%20the%20den%20to%20watch%20A%20Christmas%20Story.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20this%20point%20in%20The%20Nephew%E2%80%99s%20development,%20he%20has%20extremely%20sensitive%20to%20sound,%20especially%20loud%20noises.%20%20%20He%20also%20did%20not%20like%20cinematic%20drama.%20%20Anytime%20Mother%20Parker%20would%20screech,%20The%20Nephew%20would%20run%20around%20the%20corner%20to%20hide.%20%20%20Anytime%20the%20dramatic%20music%20would%20swell%20with%20an%20impending%20bullying%20episode,%20he%20would%20run%20and%20hide.%20%20%20When%20Scary%20Santa%20appeared,%20he%20ran%20and%20hid.%20%20But,%20when%20Ralph%20opened%20up%20his%20long-sought%20after%20present%20on%20Christmas%20morning,%20eyes%20shining%20and%20bright,%20The%20Nephew%20stood%20his%20ground,%20mesmerized%20by%20the%20childhood%20experience.%20%20You%20know%20that%20I%20am%20not%20the%20sentimental%20sort%20(especially%20from%20the%20rant%20above),%20but%20I%20remember%20watching%20his%20own%20cherubic%20face%20with%20tears%20in%20my%20eyes.%20%20(He%20did%20run%20and%20hide%20when%20Ralphie%20%E2%80%9Cshot%E2%80%9D%20his%20eye%20out.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20so%20excited%20when%20Heather%20posted%20that%20this%20would%20be%20our%20December%20Food%20%E2%80%98n%20Flix%20film.%20%20%20%20As%20soon%20as%20she%20announced%20it,%20I%20began%20pondering%20%20what%20to%20make.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20initially%20stuck%20on%20Chicken%20Chow%20Mein%20inspired%20from%20the%20Christmas%20dinner%20disaster.%20%20%20%20Then%20I%20became%20obsessed%20with%20the%20%E2%80%9Clittle%20piggy%20meatloaf%E2%80%9D%20scene.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20then%20as%20I%20was%20making%20the%20family%20holiday%20favorites%20this%20season,%20I%20had%20an%20epiphany%E2%80%A6.FUDGE!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes,%20I%20was%20inspired%20by%20%E2%80%9Cthe%20word%E2%80%A6the%20big%20one%E2%80%A6the%20queen%20mother%20of%20dirty%20words%E2%80%A6.the%20F%20dash%20dash%20dash%20word.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh,%20Fudge!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20Family%E2%80%99s%20Christmas%20Fudge%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20sugar,%20cornstarch%20and%20salt%20in%20heavy%205-quart%20kettle.%20%20Stir%20in%20evaporated%20milk%20and%20butter.%20%20Cook%20over%20medium%20heat,%20stirring%20constantly%20until%20mixture%20comes%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil.%20%20Boil%208%20minutes,%20stirring%20frequently.%20%20(Make%20sure%20it%20comes%20to%20a%20good%20rolling%20boil%20first,%20then%20time%20it%20for%208%20minutes%20or%20it%20will%20not%20set%20right.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20heat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStir%20in%20marshmallows,%20marshmallow%20cream,%20semi-sweet%20chocolate%20chips,%20milk%20chocolate%20bar%20and%20vanilla.%20%20Stir%20vigorously%20until%20smooth.%20%20(You%20will%20need%20to%20put%20some%20muscle%20into%20it.)%20%20%20Stir%20in%20nuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20into%20buttered%2010%20X%2015%20inch%20pan.%20%20Cool%20and%20cut%20into%201%201/2%20inch%20squares.%20%20Makes%20about%208%20dozen%20pieces.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20makes%20a%20huge%20pan%20of%20fudge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20posted%20this%20recipe%20four%20years%20ago%20at%20Christmas.%20%20%20%20%20It%20is%20a%20family%20favorite%20and%20always%20makes%20one%20appearance%20during%20the%20holidays.%20%20%20(It%20is%20so%20rich%20that%20we%20don%E2%80%99t%20dare%20make%20it%20twice%20in%20one%20season.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20The%20Hubs%20says,%20%E2%80%9CThe%20key%20to%20good%20fudge%20is%20the%20appearance%20of%20fudge%20%E2%80%98ribbons.'%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20is%20a%20classic%20that%20The%20Hubs%E2%80%99%20family%20has%20made%20for%20years.%20%20%20%20%20Over%20the%20years%20of%20making%20it%20at%20our%20house,%20we%20have%20changed%20the%20recipe%20just%20slightly%20to%20make%20it%20a%20bit%20creamier.%20We%20further%20modified%20the%20recipe%20a%20bit%20this%20year%20and%20swapped%20the%20vanilla%20out%20for%204%20T.%20of%20amaretto%20and%20added%20sliced%20almonds%20for%20the%20nuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELeave%20this%20out%20for%20Santa%20next%20year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20have%20found%20that%20this%20freezes%20well%20too%20for%20some%20Christmas-bites%20later%20in%20the%20year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
