%20to%20hungry%20foodies%20everywhere.%20PLUS%20we%20helped%20raise%20money%20to%20support%20Cookies%20for%20Kids'%20Cancer%20through%20each%20blogger's%20donation/purchase%20of%20OXO's%20%22Good%20Cookie%22%20Spatula.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20year%20I%20wanted%20to%20send%20The%20Food%20Poet,%20MarocMama,%20and%20Chopsticks%20and%20Measuring%20Cups%20something%20fairly%20straightforward,%20but%20still%20delicious.%20Into%20my%20mind%20popped%20the%20idea%20of%20a%20shortbread%20cookie.%20I%20thought%20I%20would%20switch%20things%20up%20by%20using%20brown%20sugar%20instead%20of%20regular,%20granulated%20sugar,%20and%20also%20threw%20in%20some%20freshly%20grated%20nutmeg%20for%20an%20extra%20touch%20of%20Christmas.%20Most%20recipes%20that%20have%20brown%20sugar%20listed%20as%20an%20ingredient%20intend%20for%20you%20to%20use%20light%20brown%20sugar%20as%20opposed%20to%20dark%20brown%20sugar%E2%80%94the%20difference%20between%20the%20two%20being%20the%20amount%20of%20molasses.%20Well%20I%20say,%20%22Bring%20on%20the%20molasses!%22%20and%20prefer%20dark%20brown%20sugar,%20but%20whatever%20you%20have%20on%20hand%20will%20do.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecooking%20spray%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EProcedure:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20all%20of%20the%20dry%20ingredients%20and%20cut%20the%20butter%20into%20them.%20This%20can%20be%20done%20a%20couple%20of%20ways%E2%80%94the%20easiest%20is%20with%20a%20food%20processor%20(pulse%20until%20fine%20and%20crumbly),%20or%20you%20could%20also%20use%20a%20handheld%20pastry%20cutter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20in%20the%20egg%20until%20the%20dough%20just%20begins%20to%20come%20together%20and%20stop%20working%20with%20it.%20If%20you%20mix%20too%20much%20(as%20was%20the%20case%20with%20my%20first%20batch%20of%20these),%20then%20the%20cookies%20will%20have%20a%20much%20different%20texture.%20Still%20delicious,%20but%20not%20shortbread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20dough%20onto%20a%20piece%20of%20plastic%20wrap,%20roll%20into%20a%20log,%20and%20place%20in%20the%20freezer%20for%20at%20least%2030%20minutes.%20This%20gives%20the%20dough%20time%20to%20rest%20and%20makes%20it%20easier%20to%20cut%20later%20down%20the%20road.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20your%20oven%20to%20350%CB%9AF.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20your%20cookie%20dough%20from%20the%20freezer%20and%20cut%20into%20about%201/4%22%20rounds.%20Lay%20them%20on%20a%20greased%20cookie%20sheet%20and%20bake%20in%20the%20oven%20for%20about%2012%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20cookies%20cool%20briefly%20on%20the%20cookie%20sheet%20before%20transferring%20to%20a%20cooling%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy%20with%20a%20big%20glass%20of%20milk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20before%20I%20forget,%20a%20HUGE%20thanks%20to%20Eating%20the%20Beats,%20Karis'%20Kitchen,%20and%20The%20Dreamery%20Blog%20for%20all%20of%20the%20delicious%20treats%20(and%20great%20CD)!%20Also,%20be%20sure%20to%20check%20out%20last%20year's%20recipe%20for%20my%20coconut%20chocolate%20chip%20cookies.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
