Tonkatsu Sauce Recipe

A sauce for Japanese pork cutlets.
Used in fried rice, and yokisoba. Would probably go well on a lot of other things too!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup catsup
  • ½ cup worchershire
  • ½ cup sake
  • 2 tblspn ground ginger
  • 2 tblspn ground garlic
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup mirin (Kroger also didn’t carry this product, but it can be substituted with Cream Sherry)

Directions

  1. Put all ingredients in sauce pan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce to a simmer for 25 to 30 mins.
  4. Skim any foam that rises to the top.
  5. Will keep refrigerated for 4 weeks.
