Ingredients
- Super Bowl Sandwich Bread
- 2 c. warm water (105 and 110°F)
- 1 T. sugar
- 2 T. fine sea salt
- 2 T. yeast
- 2 t. Balsamic vinegar
- 3 1/2 to 4 c. all-purpose flour
- olive oil
- 1/8 c. mayonnaise
- 1/4 lb. sliced deli ham
- 1/4 lb. sliced deli turkey
- 1/4. c. sliced pepperoncini deli peppers
- 1/2 c. of shredded cheese (your choice)

%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%A6it%20was%20so%20small,%20we%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20a%20football%20team.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo%20joke.%20%20I%20graduated%20with%20eleven%20people.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETherefore,%20I%20did%20not%20get%20into%20the%20whole%20football%20thing%20in%20college.%20%20%20I%20still%20don%E2%80%99t%20understand%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENever%20have,%20never%20will.%20%20I%20just%20cheer%20and%20groan%20when%20everybody%20else%20does.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20all%20being%20said,%20I%20love%20the%20Super%20Bowl%20because%20of%20the%20food.%20%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20where%20or%20when%20the%20tradition%20of%20The%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich%20was%20actually%20realized.%20%20%20It%20might%20have%20been%20as%20far%20back%20as%20my%20grandmother%E2%80%99s%20table%20as%20we%20all%20enjoyed%20chips%20and%20finger-type%20foods%20while%20Grandpa,%20Dad,%20an%20uncle%20and%20the%20cousins%20enjoyed%20the%20game.%20%20%20It%20might%20have%20morphed%20from%20our%20Christmas%20Eve%20Buffet%20when%20there%20are%20always%20sandwich%20fixings%20on%20the%20table.%20%20It%20might%20have%20been%20born%20from%20vegging%20out%20and%20watching%20bowl%20games%20all%20day%20on%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20Day.%20%20%20Regardless,%20I%20know%20that%20my%20BiL%20took%20on%20the%20challenge%20and%20makes%20his%20own%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwiches,%20trying%20to%20rival%20my%20own.%20%20(And,%20I%20really%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20when%20the%20name%20%E2%80%9CSuper%20Bowl%E2%80%9D%20sandwich%20really%20got%20dubbed%20to%20this%20sandwich.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDuring%20our%20after-Christmas%20feasting,%20I%20challenged%20him%20to%20deem%20whose%20was%20better,%20mine%20or%20his.%20%20I%20present%20The%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich,%20a%20recipe%20in%20two%20parts.%20%20First%20make%20the%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20warm%20water%20with%20sugar,%20salt%20and%20yeast%20in%20the%20bowl%20of%20a%20stand%20mixer.%20%20%20Attach%20paddle%20and%20mix%20yeast%20mixture%20until%20dissolved.%20%20%20Stir%20in%20Balsamic%20and%20flour.%20%20Beat%20until%20dough%20comes%20together.%20%20You%20want%20the%20dough%20to%20be%20sticky%20and%20somewhat%20loose,%20almost%20like%20a%20thick%20waffle%20batter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScrape%20down%20the%20sides%20of%20the%20mixing%20bowl,%20cover%20with%20a%20clean%20towel,%20and%20let%20rise%20in%20a%20warm%20area%20for%2045%20minutes%20to%204%20hours.%20%20The%20longer%20the%20rise,%20the%20better%20the%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOil%20two%208%E2%80%B3%20round%20cake%20pans.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStir%20dough%20down.%20%20Pour/scrape%20half%20the%20dough%20into%20each%20cake%20pan.%20%20Press%20dough%20down%20with%20spatula.%20%20(Dough%20will%20be%20very%20sticky.)%20%20%20Cover%20pans%20with%20a%20clean%20cloth%20or%20towel%20and%20let%20rise,%20uncovered,%20for%2045%20more%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20425%20degrees%20F.%20%20%20Bake%20at%20425%20for%2010%20minutes.%20%20Reduce%20heat%20to%20375%20and%20bake%2020%20minutes%20more.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20bread%20cool%20on%20racks,%20then%20carefully%20slice%20through%20the%20middle%20with%20a%20long%20serated%20knife.%20%20%20%20Then,%20assemble%20The%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20loaf%20of%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich%20Bread%20(recipe%20above)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/8%20%20c.%20mayonnaise%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/8%20c.%20mustard%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20lb.%20sliced%20deli%20ham%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20lb.%20sliced%20deli%20turkey%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4.%20c.%20sliced%20pepperoncini%20deli%20peppers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20medium%20tomato%20sliced%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/2%20c.%20of%20shredded%20cheese%20(your%20choice)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20the%20BROIL%20setting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20carefully%20slicing%20the%20bread%20in%20half%20horizontally,%20slather%20one%20side%20with%20mayonnaise%20and%20the%20other%20side%20with%20mustard.%20%20%20Place%20under%20the%20broiler%20until%20the%20condiments%20start%20to%20bubble%20and%20the%20outer%20edges%20of%20the%20bread%20are%20toasty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20oven.%20%20%20Set%20aside%20the%20top%20half%20of%20the%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20the%20bottom%20half,%20layer%20on%20the%20ham%20and%20turkey.%20%20Top%20with%20the%20peppers%20and%20tomato%20slices.%20%20%20Layer%20on%20the%20cheese%20and%20return%20to%20the%20oven.%20%20Broil%20again%20until%20cheese%20is%20melted%20and%20bubbly.%20%20(If%20making%20two%20sandwiches,%20repeat%20steps.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20oven%20and%20place%20top%20half%20of%20bread%20on%20top%20of%20the%20sandwich.%20%20%20Remove%20to%20a%20cutting%20board%20and%20slice%20into%20four%20quarters.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20want%20to%20present%20a%20really%20BIG%20sandwich,%20you%20can%20use%20the%20bread%20recipe%20to%20make%20one%20giant%20round%20of%20bread%20in%20a%20pizza%20pan.%20%20%20(It%20is%20just%20a%20bit%20more%20awkward%20to%20cut%20through%20the%20middle.)%20%20Obviously,%20the%20toppings%20above%20are%20just%20a%20suggestion%20but%20this%20combination%20is%20our%20favorite.%20%20The%20BiL%20will%20sometimes%20get%20a%20bit%20fancy-schmancy%20and%20put%20on%20sauteed%20mushrooms%20and/or%20peppers.%20%20Really,%20the%20possibilities%20are%20endless.%20%20Use%20whatever%20you%20have%20on%20hand.%20%20(Dill%20pickles%20work%20good%20in%20a%20pinch,%20too.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGo%20team!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20of%20today,%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20even%20tell%20you%20who%20is%20playing%20in%20Super%20Bowl%2050.%20%20%20I%20can%20tell%20you%20that%20it%20will%20be%20on%20February%207.%20%20%20%20I%20am%20posting%20this%20in%20plenty%20of%20time%20for%20you%20to%20get%20the%20sandwich%20bread%20made%20and%20ready%20for%20your%20own%20Super%20Bowl%20Party.%20%20Serve%20with%20chips%20or%20baked%20beans.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBy%20game%20day,%20I%20may%20or%20may%20not%20know%20the%20names%20of%20the%20opposing%20quarterbacks.%20%20I%20will%20know%20what%20will%20be%20on%20the%20table.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20to%20who%20won%20the%20challenge%20of%20the%20best%20Super%20Bowl%20Sandwich%20maker,%20me%20or%20the%20BiL?%20%20%20That%20my%20friends%20will%20have%20to%20wait%20until%20the%20next%20family%20gathering.%20%20The%20challenge%20still%20stands.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStay%20tuned%20for%20a%20very%20special%20event%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheck%20back%20tomorrow%20for%20more%20details%20AND%20a%20fabulous%20giveaway!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
