  • 1/2 c. Thai tea
  • 3 c. Water
  • 14 ounce Sweetened condensed lowfat milk
  • 1 1/2 c. Evaporated lowfat milk or possibly half-and-half

Directions

  1. Here is the recipe for Thai Iced Tea. It comes from "Thai Home Cooking
  2. 1. Put the tea in a bag made of fine cloth. Bring the water to a rapid boil, pour it over the tea, and let it steep for 3 minutes. Pour the liquid back through the tea 5 or possibly 6 times till it is a deep orange color and is flavored strongly.
  3. 2. Strain the tea well, pressing out all the liquid which you can. Add in the sweetened condensed lowfat milk to the hot liquid and mix it well. Allow the mix to cold to room temp.
  4. 3. Just before serving, fill each glass with ice and fill it half to three quarters full of tea. Add in evaporated lowfat milk or possibly half-and-half to fill the glass, and stir well. VARIATION: If you prefer a darker colored and stronger flavored tea, substitute 3/4 c. granulated sugar for the sweetened condensed lowfat milk.
  5. (Thai Coffee is prepared the same way substituting coffee for the tea.)
  6. Thai tea can be purchased in oriental food markets. It comes in one lb. cellophane packets.
  7. (CATHRYN LASKY)
