%20mushroom%20soy%20sauce?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20it%E2%80%99s%20grilling%20season%20now,%20not%20stir-fry%20season,%20so%20we%20do%20burgers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20might%20add%20that,%20even%20though%20mon%20mari%20has%20faithfully%20been%20doing%20the%20grilling,%20he%E2%80%99s%20move%20the%20grills%20into%20the%20barn%20because%20the%20weather%20has%20been%20so%20miserable%20the%20last%20few%20days.%20Remember%20that%20perfect%20day%20we%20had%20last%20weekend?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThose%20days%20are%20so%20fleeting%20this%20time%20of%20year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOriental%20Stuffed%20Burger%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20time:%2030%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESaut%C3%A9%20mushrooms,%20green%20garlic%20and%20celery%20in%20oil%20until%20tender,%205%20%E2%80%93%207%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20mushroom%20soy%20sauce,%201%20tbs%20hoisin%20sauce%20and%20stir%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOil%20a%20grill%20basket%20or%20mesh%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDivide%20beef%20in%20half.%20%20On%20plates%20or%20waxed%20paper%20pat%20each%20half%20into%20a%20thin%20patty,%208%20inches%20(20cm)%20in%20diameter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpread%20mushroom%20mixture%20over%201%20patty%20to%20within%201/2%20inch%20of%20edge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFlatten%20the%20second%20patty%20a%20bit%20more%20and%20carefully%20put%20it%20on%20top%20and%20work%20the%20edges%20together%20with%20your%20fingers%20to%20seal.%20Slide%20or%20tip%20it%20on%20to%20the%20grill%20basket%20and%20close%20basket.%20%20If%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20use%20a%20basket%20you%E2%80%99ll%20need%20a%20plate%20or%20baking%20sheet%20to%20help%20turn%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20on%20barbecue,%20grill%20for%205%20%E2%80%93%207%20minutes%20over%20medium-high%20heat,%20turn%20and%20grill%20another%205%20%E2%80%93%207%20or%20until%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20remaining%20hoisin%20sauce%20and%20ketchup.%20Spread%20on%20top%20of%20burger,%20cut%20into%20wedges%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20know%20I%E2%80%99ve%20told%20this%20story%20before%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20I%20came%20across%20it%20this%20morning%20and%20it%20brought%20a%20smile%20to%20my%20face%E2%80%A6..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMay%20it%20bring%20a%20smile%20to%20yours%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20few%20years%20ago,%20we%20were%20having%20dinner%20at%20a%20gorgeous%20country%20house%20hotel%20in%20the%20south%20of%20France.%20%20It%20was%20a%20beautiful,%20warm%20summer%20evening%20and%20dinner%20was%20on%20a%20stepped%20terrace%20on%20the%20hillside%20sloping%20down%20from%20the%20hotel.%20%20We%20had%20views%20looking%20into%20the%20sunset%20over%20acres%20of%20vineyards.%20%20The%20candles%20were%20flickering%20in%20a%20light%20breeze;%20the%20women%20were%20in%20flowing%20sun%20dresses%20with%20the%20%E2%80%98de%20rigueur%E2%80%99%20%20pashmina%20draped%20over%20the%20chair%20arm;%20the%20men%20in%20subtle%20silk%20shirts.%20%20It%20was%20picture%20perfect!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20were%20only%206%20or%207%20tables%20and%20in%20the%20quiet%20evening%20there%20was%20just%20a%20low%20hum%20of%20conversation%20interspersed%20with%20the%20tinkling%20of%20silverware.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20one%20of%20the%20tables%20was%20an%20American%20couple%20with%20two%20young%20boys,%20close%20in%20age,%20between%207%20and%2010%20years%20old.%20%20They%20had%20obviously%20been%20given%20the%20strictest%20orders%20to%20be%20on%20their%20best%20behavior.%20%20They%20carefully%20watched%20to%20see%20which%20utensil%20to%20use,%20which%20hand%20to%20hold%20it%20in,%20discussing%20with%20each%20other%20how%20to%20point%20the%20fork%20or%20knife.%20%20They%20moved%20their%20bread%20from%20the%20tablecloth%20to%20their%20plate,%20then%20back%20to%20the%20tablecloth%20when%20they%20noticed%20the%20French%20couple%20next%20to%20them%20left%20their%20bread%20on%20the%20cloth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20the%20boys%E2%80%99%20bread%20was%20full%20of%20sauce%20by%20this%20time%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20must%20have%20been%20admonished%20to%20stay%20neat.%20%20They%20dabbed%20their%20lips%20before%20drinking%20water%20from%20the%20goblets%20and%20always%20wiped%20their%20fingers%20(after%20licking%20them)%20before%20smoothing%20the%20linen%20napkin%20back%20on%20their%20laps.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20did%20so%20well,%20for%20so%20long%E2%80%A6.%20until%20the%20cheese%20was%20served.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20guessing%20after%20eating%20cubes%20of%20Swiss%20and%20Cheddar%20with%20their%20fingers%20for%20their%20whole%20young%20lives,%20the%20runny,%20smelly%20French%20cheeses%20were%20beyond%20strange.%20%20Fingers%20didn%E2%80%99t%20work%20(and%20dad%20frowned%20at%20the%20attempt)%20and%20it%20was%20difficult%20to%20keep%20the%20cheese%20on%20the%20fork.%20%20Finally,%20the%20younger%20one%20used%20his%20knife%20to%20scoop%20the%20cheese%20onto%20his%20bread.%20%20Very%20good!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EExcept%20that%20after%20every%20bite,%20remembering%20the%20admonition%20to%20be%20neat,%20he%20wiped%20his%20knife%20on%20his%20napkin.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBy%20the%20time%20the%20cheese%20was%20finished,%20and%20the%20dessert%20served,%20he%20was%20left%20with%20a%20sticky,%20smelly%20ball%20of%20linen%20and%20cheese%20%E2%80%93%20and%20nowhere%20to%20put%20it.%20%20We%20could%20tell%20he%20was%20considering%20tossing%20it%20down%20the%20hillside%20when%20the%20waiter%20noticed%20his%20dilemma%20and%20%20rescued%20him.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStill,%20we%20had%20all%20gotten%20through%20a%205%20course%20dinner%20without%20a%20loud%20incident;%20no%20running,%20no%20screaming,%20no%20refusal%20to%20eat%20or%20demand%20for%20a%20peanut%20butter%20and%20jelly%20sandwich.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20young%20boys%20can%20only%20be%20so%20good.%20%20After%20some%20giggling%20discussion%20between%20the%20two,%20an%20agreement%20seemed%20to%20be%20reached.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20silence,%20over%20coffee,%20as%20the%20now-replete%20diners%20were%20enjoying%20the%20quiet%20of%20the%20evening,%20a%20young%20voice%20rang%20out%20clearly:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CDaddy,%20how%20do%20you%20make%20babies?%E2%80%9D%20%20came%20from%20the%20elder.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20conversation%20on%20the%20terrace%20ceased.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CYou%20promised%20to%20tell!%E2%80%9D%20chimed%20in%20the%20younger.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20all%20waited,%20in%20silence.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDad%20looked%20around.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENo%20help,%20anywhere.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20French%20couple%20gave%20an%20expectant%20%E2%80%9COui?%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Spanish%20couple%20lifted%20their%20glasses%20in%20salute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20entire%20adult%20population%20of%20the%20terrace,%20including%20staff,%20looked%20,%20expectantly,%20at%20Dad.%20%20And%20waited.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDad%20finally%20spoke:%20%E2%80%9CThis%20isn%E2%80%99t%20really%20the%20place%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CBut%20you%20promised!%E2%80%9D%20%20%E2%80%9CPlease!!!%E2%80%9D%20%20%E2%80%9CWe%20really%20want%20to%20know!?!?%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20diners%20joined%20the%20chorus:%20%E2%80%9CYes,%20please.%E2%80%9D%20%20%E2%80%9CDo%20tell!%E2%80%9D%20%20%E2%80%9CAw,%20come%20on,%20tell%E2%80%9D%20%20%E2%80%9CWe%E2%80%99ll%20be%20good.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes,%20we%20ALL%20wanted%20to%20hear%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGood%20behavior%20is%20not%20always%20destined%20to%20last%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20update%20on%20May%202,%202014%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
