A cool and refreshing treat that's just perfect on a hot day, or after a heavy meal (think gourmet “slushy” that you eat with a spoon).

  • 1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 1/2 c. fresh squeezed orange juice

Directions

  1. Heat the sugar and water together until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; add orange juice to sugar mixture.
  2. Pour the mixture into a shallow container or pan (such as a 9 x 13 baking dish) and place in the freezer.
  3. Freeze for 2 to 3 hours, scraping through the mixture with two forks every 20 minutes or so, making certain to break up the film that forms on the surface and crush any lumps.
  4. The texture of a Granita should be like fluffy snow.
  5. Serve before the mixture freezes solid.
