Italian Style Gammon Steaks Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sm Onion, thinly slicd
  • 75 gm Button mushrooms, sliced (3oz)
  • 1 tsp Dry mixed herbs
  • 1 x 225 gram pac smoked Prime gammon steaks
  • 2 Tbsp. Tomato puree
  • 1 x Slicing tomato, sliced
  • 1 x 150 gram pac mozzarella, sliced Extra virgin olive oil to drizzle Salt and freshly grnd black pepper

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a small frying pan, stir in the onion and mushrooms and fry till tender and slightly caramelized. Add in the dry herbs and fry for a further minute.
  2. Snip on the diagonal at regular intervals with a pair of scissors the fat along the edge of the meat. This prevents the steak from curling on cooking.
  3. Grill the gammon steaks following instructions on the pack.
  4. Smooth 1 Tbsp. of tomato puree over each steak. Arrange the tomato slices on each steak and top with the the sauteed onion and mushroom mix.
  5. Arrange on the mozzarella cheese slices and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and add in seasoning.
  6. Place under a moderate grill till golden, melted and bubbling.
  7. Notes Serve with garlic bread and a crisp green salad.
