.%20And%20you%20get%20a%20fish%20and%20chip%20shop%20on%20about%20every%20third%20street%20%E2%80%93%20that%E2%80%99s%20a%20lot%20of%20curry%20sauce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%E2%80%99s%20nothing%20authentic%20about%20chip%20shop%20curry%20sauce.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20go%20thinking%20this%20is%20some%20Indian%20delight%E2%80%A6%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20exactly%20meant%20to%20be%20gourmet.%20This%20is%20the%20sort%20of%20thing%20you%20might%20eat%20while%20you%E2%80%99re%20stumbling%20home%20after%20a%20night%20at%20the%20pub.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOr,%20you%20know,%20on%20a%20Friday%20night%20in%20front%20of%20the%20telly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20ever%20fancy%20making%20your%20own%20curry%20sauce,%20it%E2%80%99s%20actually%20really%20easy.%20Of%20course%20you%E2%80%99ll%20need%20a%20big%20batch%20of%20fat%20British-style%20chips%20(none%20of%20this%20thin%20French%20fry%20nonsense).%20I%20made%20my%20own,%20but%20you%20may%20well%20decide%20to%20go%20for%20frozen%20ones.%20They%20kind%20of%20fit%20the%20theme%20here%20so%20no%20shame.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20make%20the%20sauce,%20start%20by%20cooking%20up%20some%20onion,%20garlic%20and%20apple%20(I%20know,%20it%E2%80%99s%20weird,%20but%20it%20totally%20works).%20Then%20add%20some%20flour,%20stock,%20and%20of%20course%20your%20curry%20powder.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20that%E2%80%99s%20literally%20it.%20We%E2%80%99re%20not%20exactly%20fussy,%20us%20Brits.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20that%E2%80%99s%20left%20to%20do%20is%20pour%20it%20over%20and%20dig%20in.%20Preferably%20with%20a%20plastic%20fork,%20or%20one%20of%20those%20wooden%20ones%20with%20only%20two%20prongs%20(what%E2%80%99s%20with%20those,%20by%20the%20way?%20Utterly%20useless.%20It%E2%80%99s%20like%20trying%20to%20eat%20with%20a%20stick).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20chip%20shop%20curry%20sauce%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAuthor:%20Becca%20@%20Amuse%20Your%20Bouche%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20type:%20Miscellaneous%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes:%203%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20the%20oil%20in%20a%20deep%20frying%20pan,%20and%20add%20the%20onion,%20apple%20and%20garlic.%20Cook%20over%20a%20low%20heat%20for%205-10%20minutes,%20until%20everything%20is%20very%20soft.%20Add%20the%20curry%20powder%20and%20flour,%20and%20mix%20well.%20Then%20pour%20over%20the%20stock%20and%20add%20plenty%20of%20black%20pepper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20to%20a%20gentle%20simmer,%20and%20cook%20for%20around%2010%20minutes,%20stirring%20every%20couple%20of%20minutes,%20until%20the%20mixture%20is%20thick%20and%20the%20vegetables%20have%20cooked%20right%20down.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYour%20sauce%20will%20probably%20be%20quite%20chunky,%20so%20if%20you%E2%80%99d%20prefer%20a%20smoother%20sauce,%20just%20give%20it%20a%20quick%20blitz%20with%20an%20immersion%20blender.%20This%20will%20thicken%20it%20up%20a%20bit%20too.%20I%20half-blended%20mine,%20so%20it%20was%20quite%20thick,%20but%20there%20was%20still%20some%20texture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20on%20fat%20chips.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.2.2265%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99d%20like%20to%20try%20another%20British%20classic,%20why%20not%20go%20for%20my%20vegetarian%20sausage%20hotpot:%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
