,%20so%20I%20was%20thinking%20veggies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20me,%20the%20holidays%20are%20all%20about%20comfort%20food,%20and%20creamy%20=%20comfort,%20am%20I%20right?%20So%20I%20decided%20on%20these%20Creamed%20Peas,%20and%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20actually%20tell%20Julie%20I%E2%80%99d%20never%20had%20creamed%20peas%20before%20in%20my%20life.%20But%20it%20seemed%20like%20a%20good%20idea%20at%20the%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20my%20family,%20when%20we%20have%20potatoes%20or%20perogies,%20we%E2%80%99re%20not%20usually%20serving%20them%20with%20gravy%20(unless%20we%E2%80%99re%20eating%20turkey%20or%20chicken%20and%20making%20gravy%20with%20the%20juices)%20%E2%80%94%20we%E2%80%99re%20serving%20them%20with%20what%20we%20call%20%E2%80%9Ccream%20gravy%E2%80%9D.%20Are%20you%20guys%20familiar%20with%20cream%20gravy?%20It%E2%80%99s%20something%20I%20grew%20up%20with,%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20sure%20if%20it%E2%80%99s%20more%20of%20a%20cultural%20thing%20(I%E2%80%99m%20Mennonite/Ukrainian/Russian/a%20bit%20of%20everything,%20or,%20you%20know,%20Canadian),%20or%20if%20it%E2%80%99s%20something%20that%20people%20are%20enjoying%20everywhere.%20If%20you%E2%80%99re%20not%20familiar%20with%20it,%20you%20should%20be.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20always%20loved%20when%20we%20have%20cream%20gravy%20and%20peas,%20and%20the%20peas%20kind%20of%20migrate%20over%20to%20the%20gravy,%20and%20everything%20gets%20a%20little%20saucy.%20I%20figured%20creamed%20peas%20must%20be%20pretty%20amazing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20like%20to%20make%20a%20lighter%20%E2%80%9Ccream%E2%80%9D%20sauce,%20by%20using%20a%20roux%20(butter%20and%20flour)%20to%20thicken%20low%20fat%20milk,%20you%20get%20a%20nice,%20thick,%20creamy%20sauce%20to%20use%20on%20just%20about%20anything,%20but%20with%20a%20lot%20less%20fat.%20I%20figured%20that%20would%20be%20a%20good%20starting%20point%20for%20these%20creamed%20peas,%20and%20well,%20I%E2%80%99m%20always%20right%20I%20was%20right.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20adjust%20the%20seasonings%20easily%20to%20your%20taste,%20adding%20in%20herbs%20or%20even%20cheese%20if%20you%20desire.%20You%20can%20also%20make%20the%20sauce%20ahead%20and%20throw%20it%20in%20a%20slow%20cooker%20or%20crockpot%20with%20your%20frozen%20peas%20so%20that%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20think%20about%20it%20as%20you%20prepare%20the%20rest%20of%20your%20meal.%20I%E2%80%99m%20all%20about%20options!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20pot,%20melt%20butter.%20Whisk%20in%20flour%20until%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20milk%20and%20cook%20over%20medium%20heat,%20whisking%20often,%20until%20smooth%20and%20thickened.%20Stir%20in%20salt%20and%20peas,%20cooking%20over%20medium%20heat%20until%20peas%20are%20heated%20through.%20Adjust%20seasonings%20to%20taste%20(salt,%20and%20pepper%20or%20other%20herbs%20or%20spices%20if%20desired).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.1%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehttp://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/easy-creamed-peas-recipe/%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EConnect%20with%20Ashley%20here!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOther%20side%20dishes%20you%20might%20enjoy:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEasy%20Skillet%20Scalloped%20Potatoes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUltra%20Creamy%20Mashed%20Potatoes%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
