Ingredients

  • 1 pkt dry yellow peas (about 1 lb.)
  • 3 lb salt corned beef
  • 1 head cabbage (cut in wedges)
  • 1 x turnip, sliced
  • 6 x potatoes
  • 1 lb carrots, cut in half
  • 2 x or possibly 3 parsnips (optional)

Directions

  1. Soak beef in cool water over night, drain but save water. Bring to boil in morning about 10 AM in fresh water. (If serving for dinner, if for supper do not boil till about 3 PM.) Add in cabbage and turnip, cook for about an hour. Add in whole potatoes and carrots. Parsnips if using. In meantime boil water liquid removed from meat, place peas in a muslin bag, and boil in this water. When cooked serve with meat and vegetables.
  2. Serves 6 to 8 people, depending on their appetites.
