- 3 cups all-purpose flour

- For the Powdered Sugar Glaze (optional):
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

%20that%20were%20a%20constant:%20a%20box%20of%20Entenmann%E2%80%99s%20in%20the%20kitchen,%20and%20a%20coffee%20warmer%20filled%20to%20the%20brim%20sat%20on%20the%20dining%20room%20table%20all%20day.%20The%20coffee%20was%20primarily%20for%20my%20grandma%20and%20great%20aunt%20%E2%80%93%20they%20would%20frequently%20refill%20their%20coffee%20cups%20throughout%20the%20day.%20The%20Entenmann%E2%80%99s,%20however,%20was%20there%20just%20in%20case%20a%20neighbor%20happened%20to%20stop%20by%20sometime%20throughout%20the%20day.%20More%20often%20than%20not,%20I%20(along%20with%20my%20sister%20and%20cousins)%20were%20happy%20to%20indulge%20in%20a%20pastry%20or%20two.%20My%20grandma%20always%20bought%20the%20danish-style%20pastries%20with%20the%20cream%20cheese%20filling%20and%20fruit%20on%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20the%20warm%20weather%20hit,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20thinking%20about%20doing%20some%20type%20of%20bar%20with%20cherries%20but%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20settle%20on%20exactly%20what%20I%20wanted%20to%20make.%20Then,%20one%20day%20I%20had%20a%20flashback%20of%20sitting%20at%20my%20grandma%E2%80%99s%20dining%20room%20table,%20coffee%20warmer%20on%20the%20table,%20and%20taking%20slice%20after%20slice%20of%20one%20of%20those%20danishes.%20I%20decided%20to%20make%20a%20crumb-style%20bar%20that%20emulated%20those%20nostalgic%20danishes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20started%20with%20the%20crumb%20recipe%20used%20in%20the%20blueberry%20crumb%20bars%20from%20last%20summer,%20and%20par%20baked%20the%20bottom%20crust.%20Then,%20I%20added%20a%20simple%20sweetened%20cream%20cheese%20layer,%20topped%20it%20with%20cherry%20pie%20filling,%20and%20crumbled%20the%20remaining%20crumb%20mixture%20on%20top.%20Baked%20until%20golden%20brown,%20and%20then%20a%20simple%20drizzle%20of%20a%20powdered%20sugar%20glaze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese.%20Are.%20Fabulous.%20The%20crumb%20crust%20and%20topping%20is%20crunchier%20and%20more%20sturdy%20than%20its%20danish%20counterpart,%20but%20the%20combination%20of%20flavors%20makes%20me%20feel%20like%20I%E2%80%99m%20sitting%20at%20my%20grandma%E2%80%99s%20kitchen%20table.%20And%20honestly?%20There%20was%20never%20a%20better%20place%20to%20be.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20year%20ago:%20Key%20Lime%20Pie%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETwo%20years%20ago:%20Golden%20Grahams%20S%E2%80%99mores%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFour%20years%20ago:%20Rocky%20Road%20Ice%20Cream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFive%20years%20ago:%20Italian%20Supreme%20Calzones%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECream%20Cheese%20Cherry%20Pie%20Crumb%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYield:%2020%20to%2024%20bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrep%20Time:%2020%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20Time:%2045%20to%2050%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20Time:%201%20hour%2010%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELayers%20of%20cream%20cheese%20and%20cherry%20pie%20filling%20sandwiched%20between%20crumb%20layers%20and%20drizzled%20with%20icing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20Crumb:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20375%20degrees%20F.%20Lightly%20grease%20a%209x13-inch%20baking%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Make%20the%20Crumb:%20In%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder%20and%20salt.%20Use%20a%20fork%20or%20pastry%20cutter%20to%20blend%20in%20the%20butter,%20and%20then%20the%20egg%20(the%20dough%20will%20be%20crumbly).%20Press%20half%20of%20dough%20into%20the%20prepared%20pan%20and%20bake%20for%208%20to%2010%20minutes,%20until%20light%20golden%20brown.%20Set%20on%20a%20wire%20rack%20to%20cool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Make%20the%20Filling:%20In%20a%20separate%20large%20bowl,%20beat%20the%20cream%20cheese%20and%20sugar%20on%20medium%20speed%20with%20an%20electric%20mixer%20until%20smooth,%20about%202%20to%203%20minutes.%20Add%20the%20vanilla%20extract%20and%20mix%20to%20combine.%20Using%20an%20offset%20spatula,%20spread%20the%20cream%20cheese%20mixture%20into%20an%20even%20layer%20over%20the%20crust.%20Spoon%20the%20cherry%20pie%20filling%20in%20an%20even%20layer%20over%20the%20cream%20cheese%20mixture.%20Crumble%20the%20remaining%20dough%20evenly%20over%20the%20cherry%20layer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Bake%20for%2045%20to%2050%20minutes,%20or%20until%20the%20top%20is%20light%20golden%20brown.%20Cool%20completely%20before%20adding%20the%20glaze.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5.%20Make%20the%20Powdered%20Sugar%20Glaze%20(if%20using):%20In%20a%20small%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20powdered%20sugar,%20cream%20and%20vanilla%20extract.%20Add%20more%20cream%20if%20you%20want%20a%20thinner%20glaze,%20or%20more%20powdered%20sugar%20if%20you%20want%20a%20thicker%20glaze.%20Drizzle%20over%20the%20bars%20and%20allow%20to%20set.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6.%20The%20bars%20can%20be%20served%20at%20room%20temperature%20or%20chilled.%20Leftovers%20can%20be%20stored%20in%20an%20airtight%20container%20in%20the%20refrigerator%20for%20up%20to%204%20days.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
