Ingredients
- 1/2 cup almonds, toasted and finely chopped or ground
- 1-1/2 cups coconut
- 2 T unbleached flour
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated)
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 1 egg
- Brownie:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 box Brownie Mix (Large Size for 13x9 pan)
- 3 T amaretto (or 1-1/2 tsp. almond extract + 1-1/2 tsp. water)
- 2 eggs
- Glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 T Baileys Irish Cream
- Garnish:
- 2 to 3 T toasted coconut (or toasted, slivered almonds)

%20-%20a%20booklet%20that%20I've%20had%20for%20ages.%20In%20fact,%20one%20of%20our%20favorite%20meals%20comes%20from%20that%20booklet,%20Sweet%20Potato%20and%20Black%20Bean%20Burritos,%20but%20I%20had%20never%20noticed%20this%20recipe.%20%20I'm%20not%20sure%20why%20because%20it's%20pictured%20on%20the%20front%20page%20of%20the%20booklet.%20%20But%20this%20time,%20when%20I%20went%20to%20put%20the%20book%20away,%20I%20happened%20to%20notice%20the%20picture,%20and%20I%20just%20had%20to%20look%20up%20the%20recipe,%20and%20then%20I%20just%20had%20to%20make%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20taking%20it%20for%20a%20potluck%20tomorrow,%20so%20I%20hope%20it%20tastes%20as%20good%20as%20it%20looks%20and%20smells.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBrownie%20Macaroon%20Torte%20w/%20Irish%20Cream%20Glaze%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E12%20Servings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFilling:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20medium%20bowl,%20combine%20filling%20ingredients;%20mix%20well.%20%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20oven%20to%20350%C2%B0%20F.%20%20Grease%20bottom%20of%20a%2010-inch%20springform%20pan.%20%20In%20large%20bowl,%20combine%20all%20brownie%20ingredients.%20%20Beat%20with%20electric%20mixer%20at%20low%20speed%20until%20moistened.%20%20Beat%20at%20medium%20to%20high%20speed%201%20minute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20brownie%20batter%20into%20greased%20pan%20and%20spread%20evenly.%20%20Using%20spatula,%20make%20a%201-inch%20wide%20circular%20groove%20in%20the%20batter,%20about%201%20inch%20from%20the%20edge%20of%20the%20pan.%20%20Make%20a%20second%20groove%20about%201%20inch%20from%20the%20first%20one.%20%20Spoon%20filling%20into%20grooves%20and%20press%20down%20gently%20so%20that%20it%20is%20level%20with%20the%20brownie%20batter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20at%20350%C2%B0%20F%20for%2055-60%20minutes%20or%20until%20set%20in%20center.%20%20Note:%20the%20center%20will%20raise%20up,%20but%20it%20settles%20down%20after%20the%20torte%20is%20removed%20from%20the%20oven.%20%20Cool%2015%20minutes%20and%20remove%20sides%20of%20pan.%20%20Cool%20completely%20-%201%20to%201-1/2%20hours%20in%20the%20refrigerator.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20small%20bowl,%20combine%20Glaze%20ingredients.%20%20Drizzle%20over%20top%20of%20cooled%20torte%20and%20garnish%20with%20toasted%20coconut.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20toast%20almonds:%20Spread%20almonds%20on%20baking%20sheet.%20%20Bake%20at%20350%C2%B0%20F%20for%205%20to%2010%20minutes%20or%20until%20light%20golden%20brown%20and%20fragrant,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20%20Cool%20slightly%20before%20chopping.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20toast%20coconut:%20Spread%20on%20baking%20sheet.%20%20Bake%20at%20350%C2%B0%20F%20for%203%20to%205%20minutes,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20%20Keep%20a%20close%20eye%20on%20it%20so%20it%20doesn't%20burn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don't%20usually%20buy%20cake%20mixes%20or%20brownie%20mixes,%20but%20I%20just%20happened%20to%20have%20one%20this%20time.%20%20I%20bet%20my%20regular%20brownie%20recipe%20can%20be%20used%20in%20this%20recipe,%20so%20I'll%20have%20to%20try%20that%20next%20time.%20%20See,%20I'm%20already%20saying%20next%20time%20-%20because%20this%20smells%20so%20good.%20%20Chocolate,%20coconut,%20almond,%20all%20kinds%20of%20yummy%20flavors%20together.%20%20And%20then%20the%20Irish%20Cream%20glaze%20on%20top.%20%20The%20original%20recipe%20called%20for%20a%20vanilla%20glaze%20flavored%20with%20amaretto%20and%20a%20chocolate%20glaze%20-%20and%20then%20a%20garnish%20of%20slivered%20almonds.%20%20I%20bet%20that's%20really%20good,%20too%20-%20but,%20I%20decided%20to%20just%20go%20with%20the%20one%20Irish%20Cream%20glaze%20and%20toasted%20coconut,%20because%20the%20slivered%20almonds%20I%20found%20in%20my%20pantry%20were%20old%20and%20didn't%20taste%20good%20anymore.%20%20Also,%20that%20vanilla%20glaze%20called%20for%20store-bought%20vanilla%20frosting,%20which%20I%20have%20never%20bought,%20so%20I%20was%20going%20to%20have%20to%20make%20something%20up%20anyway.%20%20Baileys%20and%20Amaretto%20-%20it%20wasn't%20a%20huge%20stretch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20a%20miracle%20I%20didn't%20just%20cut%20into%20this%20already.%20%20There's%20nothing%20wrong%20with%20taking%20a%20dessert%20to%20a%20potluck%20with%20a%20wedge%20or%20two%20missing,%20right?%20%20Or%20not.%20%20Hopefully%20I'll%20get%20a%20chance%20to%20grab%20a%20picture%20(and%20a%20taste)%20once%20it's%20cut.%20%20I%20have%20noticed%20that%20anything%20chocolate%20seems%20to%20go%20quite%20quickly%20at%20potlucks,%20so%20we'll%20see.%20%20I%20may%20just%20have%20to%20make%20another%20one%20really%20soon%20-%20especially%20since%20this%20recipe%20only%20uses%20about%201/2%20the%20can%20of%20sweetened%20condensed%20milk.%20%20I%20have%20to%20find%20something%20to%20do%20with%20that%20other%201/2,%20don't%20I?%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
