,%20I%E2%80%99m%20thinking%20that%20except%20for%20the%20occasional%20forays%20to%20my%20Grandma%E2%80%99s%20house%20for%20a%20weekend%20visit%20that%20my%20pancake%20experience%20throughout%20my%20childhood%20and%20in%20my%20own%20young%20adult%20kitchen%20had%20been%20Bisquick%20centric.%20Now,%20I%20must%20have%20thought%20they%20were%20good%20because%20I%20kept%20making%20them%20until%20that%20day.%20That%20one%20day%20when%20those%20simple%20ingredients%20displayed%20above%20changed%20everything.%20Love%20at%20first%20bite!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20it%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20just%20the%20pancakes.%20Accompanying%20them%20was%20a%20homemade%20syrup%20that%20my%20father-in-law%20called%20Mr.%20Butterworth%E2%80%99s.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20sure%20what%20I%20expected%20but%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20really%20expect%20to%20like%20it.%20They%20were%20such%20frugal%20people%20that%20I%20expected%20it%20was%20made%20because%20it%20was%20cheap%20but%20never%20expected%20it%20to%20be%20good.%20Uh%20oh%E2%80%A6wrong.%20Butter,%20sugar,%20vanilla%20cooked%20just%20long%20enough%20to%20start%20to%20caramelize?%20So%20good.%20As%20a%20matter%20of%20fact%20I%20loved%20my%20in-laws%20kitchen%20except%20for%20the%20lack%20of%20a%20dishwasher%20and%20a%20very%20old%20fashioned%20notion%20that%20no%20man%20should%20ever%20wash%20dishes.%20Ugh.%20All%20of%20my%20hard%20work%20training%20their%20son%20out%20the%20door%20over%20one%20long%20weekend.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELove%20my%20original%20recipe%20card?%20It%20was%20BI%20%E2%80%93%20Before%20Internet%20and%20I%E2%80%99ve%20kept%20that%20one%20book%20all%20of%20these%20years%20with%20some%20old%20handwritten%20recipes.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20keep%20a%20lot%20of%20%E2%80%98stuff%E2%80%99%20but%20that%20little%20book%20will%20be%20buried%20with%20me!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20sure%20that%20over%20the%20course%20of%20almost%2020%20years%20that%20I%20had%20many%20meals%20I%20loved%20but%20nothing%20quite%20as%20memorable%20as%20those%20pancakes.%20My%20girls%20are%20lucky%20that%20they%20are%20all%20they%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20known%20and%20looked%20forward%20to%20them%20each%20and%20every%20time.%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20help%20but%20recall%20snow%20days%20with%20all%20of%20the%20friends%20who%20have%20been%20inundated%20with%20snow%20this%20past%20week;%20those%20days%20were%20especially%20geared%20towards%20these%20Buttermilk%20Pancakes.%20It%20would%20be%20impossible%20to%20imagine%20during%20a%20regular%20school%20day%20so%20they%20were%20always%20requested%20when%20we%20had%20an%20unexpected%20day%20to%20just%20play.%20A%20long%20leisurely%20breakfast,%20some%20time%20outside%20clearing%20the%20driveway%20and%20sidewalks%20and%20then%20the%20fun%20part.%20Snowmen,%20sledding%20and%20pelting%20each%20other%20with%20snowballs.%20Am%20I%20the%20only%20mom%20that%20misses%20those%20days;%20you%20know%20with%20the%20luxury%20of%20forgetting%20how%20hard%20it%20was%20day%20to%20day?%20I%20just%20want%20the%20occasional%20snow%20day%20with%20my%20girls%E2%80%A6is%20that%20too%20much%20to%20ask?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20think%20now%20I%20need%20to%20make%20a%20new%20tradition;%20the%20first%20big%20snow%20we%20have%20and%20snow%20day%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20invite%20my%20new%20neighbors%20and%20their%20kids%20down%20here%20for%20breakfast%20and%20these%20pancakes%E2%80%A6trust%20me%20they%20will%20devour%20them%20and%20best%20of%20all%E2%80%A6maybe%20they%E2%80%99ll%20also%20remember%20them%20forever!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20BEST%20Buttermilk%20Pancakes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20Eggs%201%C2%BD%20C%20buttermilk%20(If%20you%20don't%20have%20buttermilk%20on%20hand%20you%20can%20also%20add%201%20Tbsp%20of%20either%20vinegar%20or%20lemon%20juice%20to%20regular%20milk%20and%20let%20it%20sit%20for%20at%20least%205%20minutes%20as%20a%20substitution).%20%C2%BC%20C%20oil%203%20Tbsp.%20sugar%20%C2%BE%20tsp.%20salt%201%C2%BD%20C%20sifted%20flour%201%C2%BD%20tsp.%20baking%20powder%201%20tsp.%20baking%20soda%20%C2%BE%20c%20Buttermilk%20%C2%BE%20c%20Butter%201%C2%BD%20c%20Sugar%201%20t%20Vanilla%201%C2%BD%20tsp%20Baking%20Soda%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20half%20of%20milk%20with%20rest%20of%20ingredients%20in%20mixer%20and%20mix%20until%20well%20blended,%20approximately%201-2%20minutes.%20Add%20remaining%20milk%20and%20mix%20for%20another%2030%20seconds%20or%20until%20smooth.%20Cook%20on%20heated%20griddle.%20Serve%20immediately.%20Combine%20butter,%20buttermilk,%20and%20sugar%20in%20large%20saucepan.%20This%20mixture%20will%20boil%20up,%20so%20make%20sure%20you%20use%20a%20large%20saucepan.%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil,%20stirring%20regularly.%20Remove%20from%20heat,%20stir%20in%20vanilla%20and%20baking%20soda%20(this%20is%20the%20fun%20part...but%20why%20you'll%20need%20that%20large%20pan%20when%20you%20see%20how%20it%20foams%20up!).%20Stir%20thoroughly%20and%20allow%20to%20cool%20a%20bit%20before%20serving.%20Will%20keep%20in%20refrigerator%20for%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks.%20We%20never%20had%20it%20that%20long...good%20on%20ice%20cream%20
