I’ve done it before and it’s sort of standard fare to see a lot of food bloggers ‘Best of the Year’ lists to wrap-up the year. I did one last year. That list started with the first cocktail that I made for what would become my Friday Cocktail series but that methodology has weighed on me a bit and that post is easily one reason why. That drink, the Vootbeer (pictured above), was never MY favorite, not by a long shot. It was fun, sure, but come on…rootbeer and vodka? OK, even with a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry? ,%20was%20never%20MY%20favorite,%20not%20by%20a%20long%20shot.%20It%20was%20fun,%20sure,%20but%20come%20on%E2%80%A6rootbeer%20and%20vodka?%20OK,%20even%20with%20a%20dollop%20of%20whipped%20cream%20and%20a%20cherry?%20It%E2%80%99s%20been%20pinned%20a%20bazillion%20times,%20mostly%20by%20young%20girls%20who%20have%20to%20insist%20it%20get%20made%20with%20Whipped%20Cream%20Vodka.%20Sacrilege%20I%20say!%20So%20I%20decided%20to%20do%20something%20a%20bit%20different%20this%20year%20and%20went%20Archive%20digging%20to%20shed%20the%20light%20of%20day%20on%20some%20of%20my%20long%20term%20favorites.%20Maybe%20they%20were%20posted%20when%20I%20first%20started%20blogging%20(so%20the%20photo%20might%20be%20a%20bit%20sucky)%20or%20maybe%20for%20some%20reason%20they%20just%20never%20got%20any%20traction..but%20they%20are%20all%20great%20dishes%20and%20they%20NEED%20to%20be%20noticed%20and%20more%20importantly?%20Made.%20So%20here%20are%20my%20choices%20for%20Best%20of%20%E2%80%98Not%20Forgotten%20Favorites%E2%80%99%20for%202012!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20up%20are%20those%20darlings%20featured%20above.%20Crisp%20pretzel,%20chewy%20bacon,%20brown%20sugar,%20chili%20powder%20and%20cayenne%20pepper%20are%20baked%20and%20the%20end%20result%20is%20a%20sum%20much%20greater%20than%20the%20parts%E2%80%A6but%20really%20the%20parts%20are%20pretty%20fabulous.%20Anyone%20saying%20bacon%20is%20dead%E2%80%A6have%20them%20come%20talk%20to%20me!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOK,%20I%20lied,%20sorry.%20This%20cocktail%20was%20not%20forgotten%20but%20it%20was%20the%20best.%20%20It%20is%20the%20single%20most%20popular%20post%20on%20my%20site%20and%20though%20I%E2%80%99m%20happy%20with%20the%20photo%20too%20(I%20even%20won%20an%20award%20with%20it!),%20the%20truth%20is%20I%20also%20love%20this%20drink.%20Sweet%20and%20tart%20and%20fizzy%E2%80%A6it%20is%20almost%20the%20perfect%20cocktail%20from%20fall%20as%20soon%20as%20cranberries%20are%20available%20thru%20January%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20just%20especially%20suited%20for%20Christmas%E2%80%A6perfectly%20pretty%20all%20dressed%20up%20in%20red%20and%20green!%20It%20has%20been%20pinned%20and%20copied%20and%20posted%20all%20over%20the%20web%20and%20with%20some%20irony%20and%20maybe%20a%20sign%20of%E2%80%99%20popularity?%20It%20was%20recently%20submitted%20to%20a%20photo%20group%20I%20belong%20to%20on%20G+%20where%20we%20share%20our%20photos%20and%20ask%20for%20constructive%20criticism.%20Except%20it%20was%20submitted%20by%20someone%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know!%20It%E2%80%99s%20a%20true%20keeper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20carrots%20one%20day%20so%20thought%20I%20would%20make%20some%20soup.%20No%20biggie%20right?%20But%20this%20soup%20is%20THE%20BOMB.%20That%20little%20sphere%20of%20butter%20and%20some%20salty%20peanuts%20makes%20more%20than%20a%20world%20of%20different.%20Easy,%20satisfying,%20just%20a%20bit%20spicy;%20I%20LOVE%20this%20soup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEggs,%20cheese,%20breadcrumbs%20and%20spices%20are%20rolled%20into%20spheres%20and%20fried%20in%20olive%20oil%20and%20then%20covered%20with%20a%20simple%20tomato%20sauce.%20The%20ease%20of%20this%20dish%20belies%20how%20good%20they%20are.%20As%20in%20I%20made%20some%20for%20company%20as%20appetizers%20and%20ended%20up%20in%20the%20kitchen%20making%20another%20batch%20while%20guests%20waited;%20they%20were%20devoured!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20this%20cocktail%20at%20a%20local%20restaurant%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20sure%20I%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20been%20quite%20so%20determined%20to%20get%20a%20recipe%20as%20I%20was%20for%20this.%20Pulpy%20and%20sweet%20with%20a%20touch%20of%20%20lime%20too,%20it%20puts%20to%20shame%20any%20other%20Lemon%20Drop%20Martini%20I%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20had.%20The%20technique%20seems%20weird%20but%20the%20end%20result%20is%20fantastic.%20I%20now%20use%20the%20same%20process%20to%20make%20lemonade%20and%20limeade%20if%20I%E2%80%99m%20in%20the%20mood%20for%20something%20non-alcoholic.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20amazing.%20It%E2%80%99s%20from%20one%20of%20my%20treasured%20Junior%20League%20of%20Denver%20cookbooks%20and%20I%20served%20it%20to%20a%20group%20of%20local%20friends%20I%20had%20met%20through%20Twitter.%20Pesto,%20potatoes,%20flank%20steak%20and%20salad%20are%20all%20%20layered%20and%20make%20for%20a%20fabulous%20presentation,%20an%20easy%20to%20serve%20dish%20and%20without%20a%20doubt%20one%20with%20fabulous%20flavor.%20I%20want%20this%20again%20NOW!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnother%20favorite%20from%20a%20local%20Junior%20League%20cookbook;%20this%20dish%20is%20just%20the%20perfect%20do-ahead%20for%20a%20brunch,%20holiday%20or%20otherwise.%20I%20served%20it%20to%20a%20local%20group%20of%20bloggers%20at%20our%20first%20get%20together;%20you%20know%20if%20it%20was%20raved%20about%20there,%20well,%20it%20passed%20muster.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20are%20far%20too%20simple%20to%20make%20to%20be%20so%20dang%20good.%20I%E2%80%99m%20serious.%20A%20mix%20of%20spices%20is%20rubbed%20on%20boneless%20chicken%20thighs.%20Broil%20one%20side%20for%205%20minutes,%20flip%20and%20broil%20the%202nd%20side.%20Baste%20with%20some%20honey%20and%20broil%201%20minute%20longer.%20THAT%20IS%20IT!!%20I%20dare%20you%20to%20not%20suffer%20my%20same%20fate.%20I%20stood%20over%20the%20stove%20and%20ate%20two%20of%20them%20before%20I%20made%20myself%20stop%20so%20there%20would%20actually%20be%20enough%20for%20dinner.%20Do%20them,%20your%20family%20will%20love%20you.%20I%20also%20believe%20they%20have%20the%20words%20%E2%80%98Super%20Bowl%20Party%E2%80%99%20written%20all%20over%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20just%20posted%20this%20not%20too%20long%20ago%20but%20it%20has%20been%20so%20amazingly%20received%20by%20friends%20and%20family%20that%20I%20thought%20maybe%20it%20should%20be%20given%20another%20chance.%20My%20daughter%20was%20unimpressed%20by%20the%20ingredients;%20actually%20I%20remember%20feeling%20the%20same.%20I%20loved%20a%20similar%20type%20drink%20with%20hot%20coffee%20but%20this%20was%20taking%20a%20chance%20and%20one%20I%E2%80%99m%20so%20glad%20I%20took.%20Tequila%20is%20so%20often%20associated%20with%20limes%20and%20lemons%20but%20give%20it%20a%20shot%E2%80%A6or%20two!%20What%20it%20does%20to%20a%20heated%20drink%20is%20only%20short%20of%20amazing;%20it%20gives%20warm%20a%20whole%20different%20meaning!%20Try%20it%E2%80%A6you%E2%80%99ll%20see.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELast%20but%20not%20least,%20what%20shall%20that%20be?%20I%20think%20I%E2%80%99ll%20give%20this%20spot%20to%20the%20dessert%20that%20is%20most%20often%20searched%20for%20and%20found%20on%20my%20site.%20I%20love%20cheesecake%20but%20not%20those%20that%20are%20filled%20with%20a%20lot%20of%20extras;%20no%20cookies%20or%20candy%20for%20me.%20This%20Lemon%20Cheesecake%20is%20divine;%20I%20think%20it%20could%20almost%20be%20called%20perfect.%20Light,%20luscious%20and%20lemony%20(and%20that%20limoncello%20part%20does%20not%20hurt%20one%20tiny%20bit!).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20you%20have%20it,%20ten%20posts%20that%20I%20love%20for%20different%20reasons%E2%80%A6and%20I%20hope%20you%20find%20something%20you%20love%20too%E2%80%A6Happy%20New%20Year!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
