It only comes but once a year, but it should be an event that is fondly remembered for the other 364!

And since "Mardi Gras" means "Fat Tuesday", and most of us cannot party freely on a Tuesday, I'm going to suggest we create a party theme for the Saturday that precedes Fat Tuesday. That way, we can enjoy food and drink and guests but center the event around the theme of Mardi Gras.

So welcome to our newly invented holiday - SAMEDI GRAS! (FAT SATURDAY!)

We will submit - and ask you to submit - all your Fat Saturday Party recipes and ideas. We should be able to get some good times rolling, so to speak...

Like any good party, our "Samedi Gras" party will require some advance planning - invitations, decorations, libations and, of course, a menu assembled to satisfy our guests and to maintain our theme. The easiest element is planning libations - the beverages should reflect the theme and New Orleans. The greatest logistical challenge is the dinner menu - shopping, prepping (sometimes a day or two in advance) and cooking, which will be done the morning of the event.

So we'll tackle each element of our successful Samedi Gras party - and welcome your suggestions - and recognize that most of the world does not live in New Orleans, yet the whole world should be able to enjoy a Mardi Gras-themed party once a year!
I've cooked/tasted recipes from this theme!
