?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20good%20friends.%20Very%20good%20friends.%20I%20was%20recently%20invited%20to%20dinner%20at%20their%20home%E2%80%93%20they%20cooked%20for%20me.%20An%20entire%20French%20meal.%20So%20many%20courses%20I%20can't%20name%20them%20all.%20It%20ended%20with%20a%20mousse-like%20Mocha%20Chocolate%20Icebox%20Cake%20from%20The%20Barefoot%20Contessa.%20The%20cake%20you%20see%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20only%20was%20the%20cake%20and%20entire%20meal%20very%20delicious.%20It%20was%20a%20very%20big%20deal%20to%20me.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22What's%20the%20big%20deal?%22%20you%20may%20be%20thinking...%20friends%20cook%20for%20friends.%20It's%20what%20they%20do.%20But%20you%20know%20what?%20The%20longer%20this%20blog%20goes%20on%20the%20further%20and%20more%20far%20between%20my%20dinner%20invitations%20have%20become.%20Really.%20I%20can't%20tell%20you%20how%20many%20times%20I%20have%20heard,%20%22Oh,%20I%20can't%20cook%20for%20you,%20Greg.%20You're%20too%20good%20a%20cook%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20laugh%20it%20off.%20Because,%20it's%20not%20important%20that%20you%20cook%20for%20me.%20It's%20not%20why%20we're%20friends.%20But%20what%20I%20really%20want%20to%20say%20is%20%22you%20can%20cook%20for%20me%E2%80%93%20if%20you%20want%20to.%20But%20you%20don't%20have%20to.%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20fact%20I%20am%20always%20telling%20people%20to%20entertain%20the%20people%20they%20love%20by%20sharing%20something%20they%20themselves%20are%20good%20at.%20It%20doesn't%20have%20to%20be%20cooking.%20Some%20of%20the%20best%20parties%20I%20have%20been%20to%20did%20not%20revolve%20around%20a%20meal.%20If%20you're%20athletic%E2%80%93%20arrange%20an%20afternoon%20of%20something%20sporty.%20I%20may%20not%20be%20all%20that%20sporty,%20but%20I%20want%20to%20love%20what%20you%20love.%20So%20I%20will%20certainly%20give%20it%20my%20best%20shot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20know%20the%20hills%20outside%20Los%20Angeles%20like%20the%20back%20of%20your%20hand%E2%80%93%20invite%20me%20on%20a%20hike.%20I'd%20love%20a%20little%20of%20your%20inside%20information.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMaybe%20your%20kids%20are%20adorable%20(and%20whose%20aren't)...%20well%20then%20invite%20me%20to%20their%20school%20play.%20Yes.%20I'll%20go.%20Yes.%20I'll%20give%20a%20standing%20ovation.%20All%20kids%20deserve%20standing%20ovations.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEven%20if%20your%20greatest%20asset%20is,%20well%20your%20assets.%20Then%20invite%20me%20to%20dinner%20at%20a%20fab%20restaurant.%20I'll%20eat%20it%20all%20up.%20And%20give%20you%20a%20hug%20to%20boot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20if%20you're%20a%20great%20cook,%20like%20my%20friends%20Yuval%20and%20Alla%20(owners%20and%20innovators%20of%20L'uvalla,%20a%20luxurious%20line%20of%20organic%20skin%20care%20products).%20Then%20hell%20yes,%20cook%20for%20me.%20I'll%20eat%20it%20all%20up.%20And%20give%20you%20a%20hug%20to%20boot.%20My%20point%20is.%20Everyone%20is%20good%20at%20something.%20The%20best%20parties%20I%20have%20been%20to%20are%20when%20someone%20gives%20the%20best%20of%20themselves%20through%20love.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhich%20brings%20me%20to%20this%20cake.%20It%20may%20be%20a%20Barefoot%20Contessa%20recipe.%20But%20it%20was%20made%20with%20love%20by%20my%20friends%20and%20offered%20to%20me%20(and%20Ken)%20over%20dinner.%20We%20accepted%20it%20eagerly%20and%20I%20choose%20to%20share%20it%20with%20you%20here.%20Though%20I%20may%20be%20a%20good%20cook,%20what%20I%20really%20love%20is%20sharing.%20So%20welcome%20to%20my%20after%20party.%20I%20hope%20you%20enjoy%20this%20cake.%20GREG%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20bowl%20of%20an%20electric%20mixer%20fitted%20with%20the%20whisk%20attachment,%20combine%20the%20heavy%20cream,%20mascarpone,%20sugar,%20coffee%20liqueur,%20cocoa%20powder,%20espresso%20powder,%20and%20vanilla.%20Mix%20on%20low%20speed%20to%20combine%20and%20then%20slowly%20raise%20the%20speed,%20until%20it%20forms%20firm%20peaks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20assemble%20the%20cake,%20arrange%20chocolate%20chip%20cookies%20flat%20in%20an%208-inch%20springform%20pan,%20covering%20the%20bottom%20as%20much%20as%20possible.%20(I%20break%20some%20cookies%20to%20fill%20in%20the%20spaces.)%20Spread%20a%20fifth%20of%20the%20mocha%20whipped%20cream%20evenly%20over%20the%20cookies.%20Place%20another%20layer%20of%20cookies%20on%20top,%20lying%20flat%20and%20touching,%20followed%20by%20another%20fifth%20of%20the%20cream.%20Continue%20layering%20cookies%20and%20cream%20until%20there%20are%205%20layers%20of%20each,%20ending%20with%20a%20layer%20of%20cream.%20Smooth%20the%20top,%20cover%20with%20plastic%20wrap,%20and%20refrigerate%20overnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERun%20a%20small%20sharp%20knife%20around%20the%20outside%20of%20the%20cake%20and%20remove%20the%20sides%20of%20the%20pan.%20Sprinkle%20the%20top%20with%20the%20chocolate,%20cut%20in%20wedges,%20and%20serve%20cold.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
