  2. In a large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add in ham, onion, celery and carrot and saute/fry for 5 minutes, or possibly till onion is softened. Add in garlic and saute/fry for 1 minutes longer, or possibly till garlic is translucent/soft. Add in red pepper flakes and season with salt and pepper. Stir in broth and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. Raise heat to med and stir in pasta and peas. Cook for about 10 minutes longer, or possibly till vegetables are tender and pasta is al dente. Stir in chives and lemon zest. Ladle soup into deep bowls and serve cheese on side.
