Lebanese kibbeh

These delicious and simple patties are an easy version of the traditional Lebanese kibbeh.

Ingredients

  • 450 g ground lean beef
  • 1 cup bulgur (cracked wheat)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 20 leaves of green mint
  • 10 leaves of marjoram or 1 tsp dried
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 bell pepper
  • ½ green chili pepper (optional)
  • 1 ½ tbs olive oil

Directions

1. Soak the bulgur in 250 ml cold water preferably overnight. Squeeze with hands dry.
2. Place the meat, spices and peppers in a food processor and grind for 3-5 minutes until the ingredients are well mixed and homogeneous.
3. Add bulgur to the meat mixture and knead for 2-3 minutes until well mixed.
4. Using damp hands, shape the meat mixture into small, palm-sized patties. Place them on a parchment paper (or silicone cover) lined baking pan.
5. Brush each patty with olive oil and bake in an oven at 180°C for 35-40 minutes.
6. Serve hot or cold in pita bread with sliced tomatoes, onion, green peppers, red radish, green mint, etc. and dollops of plain yogurt.
