June 9, 2011Wow, a fruit wine might be a great idea. Peach and lavender, cherry and lavender, the possibilities are endless there!
June 7, 2011What an awesome idea. I never thought of making a jelly out of wine. I'll need to try this one day - my mother-in-law occasionally brings fruit wines over.

.%20%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20wait.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20originally%20wanted%20to%20make%20homemade%20strawberry%20jam,%20but%20alas,%20strawberry%20season%20came%20and%20went%20without%20time%20to%20make%20anything.%20%20My%20next%20thought%20was%20to%20make%20a%20wine%20jelly.%20%20I%20had%20never%20tried%20this%20before,%20but%20I%20thought%20it%20would%20be%20fairly%20easy.%20%20I%20started%20a%20web%20search.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20ran%20across%20a%20%E2%80%9CLavender%20Wine%20Jelly%20Recipe%E2%80%9D%20from%20Family,%20Food,%20and%20Other%20Things.%20%20%20I%20decided%20to%20give%20it%20a%20try.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20lavender%20patch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20bought%20the%20cheapest%20(and%20biggest)%20bottle%20of%20wine%20and%20had%20dried%20lavender%20on%20hand:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheapo%20wine%20and%20lavender.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20wine%20and%20lavender%20in%20a%20small%20saucepan%20and%20bring%20to%20boil.%20%20Remove%20from%20heat%20and%20cover.%20%20Let%20steep%2020%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStrain%20lavender%20buds%20and%20place%20wine%20in%20a%20large%20saucepan.%20%20Stir%20in%20sugar.%20Over%20high%20heat,%20stirring%20constantly,%20bring%20mixture%20to%20a%20full%20boil%20that%20cannot%20be%20stirred%20down.%20%20Stir%20in%20the%20pectin%20and%20bring%20back%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil.%20%20Stirring%20constantly,%20boil%20for%201%20minute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20from%20heat%20and%20skim%20off%20foam%20(if%20necessary).%20%20Pour%20into%20sterilized%20jelly%20jars,%20place%20cap%20on%20each%20clean%20rim,%20screw%20on%20ring%20and%20place%20in%20a%20water%20bath%20for%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%20makes%20four%20pints.%20I%20made%20half-pints.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20I%20made%20two%20batches.%20%20One%20turned%20out%20great.%20%20I%20now%20have%20eight%20small%20gift%20jars%20of%20beautiful%20Lavender%20Wine%20Jelly%20to%20give%20out.%20%20My%20second%20batch?%20%20Well,%20I%20have%20eight%20small%20gift%20jars%20of%20Lavender%20Wine%20syrup%20to%20give%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20lavender%E2%80%94love%20to%20grow%20it,%20pick%20it,%20smell%20it.%20%20I%20have%20a%20bottle%20of%20lavender%20linen%20water%20that%20I%20spritz%20my%20pillow%20with%20after%20a%20stressful%20day.%20%20Besides%20this%20jelly,%20I%20have%20also%20made%20lavender%20sugar,%20lavender%20herbed%20salt,%20and%20lavender%20sugar%20cookies.%20%20All%20of%20these%20things%20make%20great%20gifts,%20too.%20%20Check%20them%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20made%20one%20batch%20of%20Garlic%20Rosemary%20Jelly%20to%20take.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMuch%20thanks%20to%20Family,%20Food,%20and%20Other%20Things%20for%20the%20inspiration.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELavender%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
